Monkeying Around | BrainDead Brewing Dallas, TX

If you know Dallas you know the downtown area is fairly non-traditional, non-traditional in the sense that it seizes to exist after hours. However, there are enclaves of bars and restaurants nearby that aren’t to be missed. One neighborhood in particular, Deep Ellum, has seen a resurgence in recent years and BrainDead Brewing is one spot taking advantage of that which you won’t want to miss.

Located on Main St. in Deep Ellum BrainDead Brewing is best summed up by their about me on Facebook, “We’re kinda like the hip hop duo Black Star… but instead of making awesome rap, we make ridiculously good beer and food.” What does that mean exactly? We have no idea, but that’s part of why we love it so much. Deep Ellum is eclectic and his home to music venues and art shows and a just a general weirdness that works so well, which is why a line like that also works so well.

However, we do know what it means when they say they, “make ridiculously good beer” as Gas Monkey Garage’s digital team sat down to try a flight of some of their signature beers. Here’s our very unscientific take on them…

Additionally, the brew house has ample outdoor seating as it is on a corner to enjoy the long Texas summers. As well as plenty of seating inside where throughout the week they host a variety of events from trivia to movie nights. BrainDead is as much a small community as it is a fantastic place to grab a drink and it’s that whole which makes it a must visit.

Aaron Kaufman Launches New Site, Ventures

As some may recall Aaron Kaufman and Richard parted ways on last season of Fast N’ Loud, but that does not mean it’s the last you’ll see of either. Fast N’ Loud returns this fall with some great builds and a few surprises and as for Aaron, he’s just launched his kickass site, arclightfab.com.

Returning to his Ford roots Aaron will be fabricating for the early model Ford trucks he holds dear, as well as hosting a cruise this fall for like-minded enthusiasts. The Fun Hundred Run will take participants through hundreds of miles of Texas’ best driving roads with campouts and comradery along the way. Additionally, he’s got a shop up and running with some rad shirts, hats and stickers so be sure to show him some love with his new ventures.

Vaughn Gittin Jr’s. All Carbon Fiber Mustang RTR-C For Sale [Video]

Engine swaps, after-market parts and paint jobs have become fairly common practice in elevating a car to the next level. However, when every part counts you can’t overlook anything, even if it means completely replacing the body, which is exactly what Vaughn Gittin Jr. did with his 2010 Ford Mustang RTR- C.

In order to shed weight off the Mustang Vaughn and the RTR team hand built the car entirely of carbon fiber reducing its weight by 500 pounds. “We wanted to show the forward-thinking mindsest of the brand in the form of one of the most functional and bad ass looking Mustangs of all time,” said Vaughn. “Bad ass looking” is an understatement as the team went to extremes taking cues from the Pagani Zonda making sure all the carbon fiber weaves line up.

Beneath the carbon fiber upgrades are some performance upgrades contributing to the 550hp output of the RTR-C. The 4.6-liter V8 features a Ford Racing Supercharger, Ford Racing mufflers and American Racing headers all boost the performance while the $25,000 a set one-off HRE wheels add to the handling and style.

Crossing the block this weekend at Barrett-Jackson some lucky bidder will be able to take home not just an amazing Mustang, but one of Vaughn’s favorite cars. “This car is the first special vehicle ever built by RTR,” said Vaughn. “I personally signed off on every single part this is on this vehicle and enjoyed putting every single one – of the very few miles it has – on it.”

Camaroest Camaro Ever Sets Nuburgring Ring Record [Video]

Well, that news did not take long (re: Chevy Hints At Nurburgring Ring Camaro ZL1 1LE News [Video]). Chevrolet announced today that their Camaro ZL1 1LE has set the Nurburgring Ring record for fastest Camaro at 7:16.04.

In all seriousness, it is quite an accomplishment for the Camaro ZL1 1LE which shaved 10-seconds from the time of the ZL1 on the Ring. For comparisons sake the top five cars to run the Ring to date: NextEV Nio EP9, Radical SR8LM, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Radical SR8 and Porsche 918 Spyder. And the only two consumer cars on the list, Lamborghini and Porsche, came in with times of 6:52.01 and 6:57.00, respectively.

Luxury Garages Bring Refuge For Autos, Owners

The garage has always been a hangout for men, or women, looking to get their hands dirty. However, in recent years car collectors and general automotive enthusiasts have been turning to garages of their own without necessarily wanting to turn a wrench. One of the companies at the foreground of this luxury garage suite movement is Garages of Texas out of Dallas.

What evolved from a simple storage concept in 2014, Garages of Texas saw an unfulfilled market for “man-cave” style garages. “We built our first garage condo project in 2015 to a certain design not knowing who all or what would be stored/showcased [there],” said Garages of Texas’ Sean Gans. From there the idea quickly grew with five additional garage condo developments soon to be open in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. And as the idea has grown so have the interiors to reflect the varying auto lovers they attract.

The idea is relatively simple, and reflective of its personal storage origin; a community is built with upwards of 100 individually purchased units. However, from there they can take paths that are anything, but simple. “Several buyers have purchased numerous garages to over 5,000 sq.-ft. removing demising walls creating an extraordinary “man-cave” for cars, boats, RVs, small business etc.” said Sean. These garage spaces include luxury options such as second story mezzanines, AC/Heat, plumbed for bathroom/shower, wired for phone/cable/internet and high security as if you were in a luxury home. This movement shows no signs of slowing down, and rightfully so, with Garages of Texas developing additional garages in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
