Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak Preps For Record Setting Run

The aptly named Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak took to the racetrack in Alès to spin some laps in advance of its late June record setting attempt at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Purpose built for the record setting run, the Volkswagen looks to leave the “Race to the Clouds” having captured the record for electric cars. Romain Dumas piloted the car in testing and will through the record attempt in the 680hp, twin-engine prototype.

2018 Mustang Cobra Jet Is Fastest Straight-Line Pony

It has been half a century since the first Mustang Cobra Jet queued up at the drag strip and to commemorate that Ford Performance has debuted the new 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet.

As tradition would dictate the new Cobra Jet is built for straight-line speed and this new one does that quicker than any before it with a quarter-mile time in the mid-eights and a top speed of 150mph. The power is derived from the supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8 and with options like, “NHRA-certified roll cage, Racetech FIA seats, and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels” you’ll be ready to compete straight from the Ford factory. However, only 68 of them are being sold so you better act quicker than the Cobra Jet itself if you’re looking to scoop one up.

Since its establishment, MathWorks has committed to its social mission by offering support for innovative programs, such as EcoCAR 3, that advance education while also supporting environmental sustainability. MathWorks has consistently provided each of the sixteen teams with the same vital software programs that are used in the modern automotive industry. From the first to the fourth year in EcoCAR 3, the Penn State team has used a variety of the sponsor’s software programs to model, compute, and simulate different aspects of the vehicle. Without the generosity and help from MathWorks, this wouldn’t have been possible.

Software programs, such as MATLAB and Simulink are crucial to the development of the vehicle, from the creation of key vehicle algorithms to the coding of the system’s safety measurements. 2019 Corvette ZR1 To Pace Indy 500

Last year’s 101st running of the Indy 500 saw an average speed of 155.4mph so it seem fitting to have the fastest production Corvette in history lead the field to green.

In fact, with a top speed of 212mph the 2019 Corvette ZR1 is not too far off the pole speed of last year which was 232.2mph. Sure, that’s lightyears in racing, but one of the smaller gaps you’ll ever see between pace cars and the race cars they pace…Say that 10 times fast.

The 2018 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil takes place on on Sunday, May 27.

Gas Prices Rise To Three Year High With Summer Travel On Horizon

Ahh, how we all long for 2015 and the simpler times, when you could take your car out and cruise down easy street. In fact, this past week, the national-average for gas prices hit $2.68 a gallon which is the highest since July of 2015.

According to GasBuddy, the sudden spike is related to, you guessed it, political uncertainty. Uncertainty over military action in Syria and a possible trade conflict with China has driven the price of oil up to $67 a barrel, the highest since 2014…Oh how we wish it were 2014 again.

Head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, Patrick DeHaan, noted, “recent rhetoric from the Trump Administration inflaming the situation in Syria and pushing a trade war with China is like pouring gasoline on a fire — they certainly put more upward pressure on prices.”

Additionally, U.S. inventories of oil are 20% lower than that of just one year ago in 2017. Here’s hoping that as we edge closer into the summer months, when prices often peak, we aren’t hit with any more bad news.
