Ram Rolling Out Two Concept 1500s For SEMA

Just a few more sleeps until the automotive world converges on Sin City for the sites and sounds of SEMA. As always, one of the sites to see is the massive FCA setup which this year will feature two Ram 1500 concept trucks.

The first is the Mopar-modified Ram 1500 Rebel Concept which as one would guess features a slew of Mopar aftermarket accessories. How much is a slew in this case? Well, more than 200 Mopar parts and accessories were used to give this “Rebel Smoke” truck its 2-inch lift, satin wheels, running boards, skid plates and on and on. Under the hood the 5.7-liter HEMI engine saw a little upgrade of its own with a Mopar “Ram Airflow” cold-air intake system.

Next up the Ram 1500 Big Horn “Low Down” Concept which went low when the Rebel Concept went high. The street inspired truck features its share of Mopar as well including a 2-inch drop by way of a prototype lowering kit. Packing the same under the hood setup as the Rebel the difference here is mainly cosmetic with its custom “Brassphault” color palette.

Both trucks will be on display Tuesday to Friday of next week at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV.

Hummer H1 Launch Edition Has Arrived For The Millionaire Prepper

Mil-Spec Automotive (MSA) has launched their take on the well-known Hummer H1 dubbed, creatively, the Launch Edition.

Each Launch Edition Hummer will be hand built by a team of 12 at MSA who will be further compartmentalized to tackle every element of the build. Two years in the making, the MSA team is ready to take orders on a 12 unit run through 2019. Of those 12, the brand will reserve six to be entirely custom outfitted by the manufacturer.

Those lucky enough to be one of the 12, in terms of selection and bank account, will need to fork over at least $218,499 for the 500hp 1,000lb.-ft. of torque Hummer. However, can you really put a price on your apocalypse security?!

1 of 135 Hemi Superbird Flies Into Windy City Auction This Weekend

There is a reason they didn’t call this 1970 Plymouth just “bird” and that reason is because it’s super.

By now the story of the Superbird has been told and retold, but, in short, was built to compete in NASCAR and to do so required a consumer production run. That run was super limited resulting in just under 3000 ever being produced and only 135 like this Hemi Superbird being hatched. Through the years these cars have become icons from there NASCAR days to the Road Runner imagery and the glaring wings, all of which mean big money for the car these days.

This Superbird could fetch nearly $400,000 depending on the level of restoration. A similar fair condition ’70 with a 440 Super Commando Six Barrel took in $181,500 earlier this year, but that was of 300 featuring that engine option verse the top-end Hemi of this Superbird. Given the condition and market our guess is more the quarter-million range for this classic, but we will know for certain once the hammer hits at Mecum’s Chicago auction this weekend.

1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Shooting Brake By Vignale Is Italian History

I know what you’re thinking, finally a Ferrari that looks like Clark Griswold’s wagon f*cked Christie Brinkley’s Ferrari 308 GTS in National Lampoon’s Vacation.

Needless to say, this creation is not stock, but it’s also not some Frankenstein’s monster of a car. Based off an original 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 the car then underwent custom work by Vignale. The name Vignale may not mean much to you these days, but it once stood for one of the premiere coach builders of Italy, Alfredo Vignale. As an Italian firm the brand worked closely with fellow Italian manufacturers, such as: Ferrari, Maserati and Fiat.

Vignale was sold to De Tomaso, a name Fast N’ Loud fans should recognize from our Pantera builds, and later taken over by Ford who wold discontinue the Vignale name. Today that name remains relevant through the numerous designs, including this 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Shooting Brake by Vignale which heads to auction later this year in California. The unique lot is part of the Petersen Museum Collection being listed by RM Sotheby’s.

You’d Have To Be Pretty High To Try Something Like This

While the 2019 Formula One race in Miami is now tentatively 2020 that didn’t stop the racing series from hosting the first-ever F1 Miami Festival this past weekend.

As part of the festivities Red Bull released a video of driver David Coulthard doing some casual donuts atop 1000 Museum building in their RB7 F1 car. David successfully completed a series of beautiful donuts 700 feet above the ground and lived to tell about it… and if you make a Red Bull gives you wings joke here you may not.

1 of 69, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Auction Bound This Weekend

Bryan Adams got his first real six-string, Woodstock happened and Chevrolet would release just 69 ZL1 Camaros, the year was 1969.

Only needing to make 50 that year to appease the NHRA for competition, Chevrolet upped the production number to 69. This number most likely representative of the production year though one can’t help, but hope it was the idea of a distant Gronkowski. Of those 69 it is reported 20 went to the NHRA and the remaining 49 sold in the years to come. The $7,200 price back in the day, or about $50,000 today, made them hard to move while their low production number today can’t satisfy demand.

Heading to auction this weekend in Chicago is No.4 ever produced. Said to have gone under a “comprehensive restoration,” this ZL1 features a 9560 427/425 HP V8. Though no estimate is given by Mecum Auctions a similar ’69, No. 11, had a near million dollar estimate before failing to sell nearly three years ago in Florida reaching a high bid of $600,000. Given the condition and low production number of this ZL1 it would suggest a near three-quarter million price tag for this classic muscle car.

1,400HP Dodge Demon Set For SEMA Debut

The latest in the growing list of pre-SEMA teases has us itching to be in Las Vegas, SpeedKore Performance Group’s Dodge Demon.

At face value the Demon looks pretty reminiscent of the 770hp car which it is derived from, but the two are worlds apart. SpeedKore’s updated version now features a carbon body and turbochargers which have significantly increased the cars performance. To what degree you wonder? Well, 1,400hp total with slightly over 1,200hp being delivered to the rear wheels. All that power with the lighter carbon body has the car running an 8.77-second quarter-mile at 162mph.

Ford Increasing GT Production Run By 350 Units

In 2016 Ford opened the application process for their GT and received more than 6,500 applications for the 1,000 car production run. Now, with over six applicants per GT, the manufacturer has decided to expand the production run by 350 GTs bringing the total to 1,350.

To be eligible for one of the additional GTs perspective buyers will again have to fill out an application on fordgt.com during a 30 day window beginning November 8th. If you happen to be one of the original 6,500 applicants you will need to modify your current application to be in the running for the new round of 350. Production will run 2020 thru 2022 on the twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine powered supercar.

And, ultimately, if your not so lucky, but have the zeros in your bank account you can always go the used route at auction to secure your 216mph Ford GT.

Specialty Vehicle Engineering’s 1000HP Yenko Camaro

Yenko is a name that pops up a lot around here because in automotive history it ranks up there with the likes of Shelby who made cars, fast and loud. Like Shelby, the Yenko name lives on, but now through Specialty Vehicle Engineering who unveiled their new 2019 Yenko/SC Stage II Supercharged Camaro.

A few details such as Yenko badges, color options, wheels and hood subtly change the look of the Camaro, but the major change is under the hood. The 1000hp Camaro features a, “custom-built 416 C.I.D. LT-1 engine w/aluminum block, forged 4340 steel crankshaft and H-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons, CNC ported LT-1 cylinder heads, upgraded fuel system and injectors w/custom performance tune.” That maybe more reading than you were looking for if you’re just chasing that horsepower figure, but a little reading never hurt anyone.

In addition to the four-figure horsepower Yenko the company is also releasing an 835hp version which will feature the same engine. With so many ponies, tech, and a pretty fair three year warranty you’re looking at a six-figure Camaro, but with 1000hp and a name like Yenko there are worse ways of blowing your cash.

Ford Teases SEMA Bound SUV Lineup

Behold the future of Ford! Earlier this year the manufacturer announced they were ending production on all cars aside from the Mustang. A crossover will soon join the Mustang, but the future emphasis is on SUVs, like the five shown here they’re bringing to SEMA.

These customs are made up of two Expeditions, one EcoSport, one Explorer and one Edge ST showing the manufacturers range, not just of customization, but SUV and light SUV options. Additionally, each represent a different customizer from California’s famed MAD Industries to New York’s Tucci Hot Rods. In all, the five makeup just 10% of the fleet Ford plans to bring to SEMA along with their Ford Out Front interactive experience.

The vehicles will be on display at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV October 30th to November 3rd at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Steve McQueen’s Willys Jeep Invades UK Auction

It’s a safe assumption that the last time this 1945 Willys Jeep MB saw Europe, if it did at all, was under far worse circumstances. However, since being delivered to the US Army on July 7th 1945 this Willys life took a turn for greatness.

Once relieved of its duty the Willys found its way into the collection of the King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen. A part of his vast collection the Willys stands out to the layman as McQueen’s name has primarily become associated with Mustangs and motorcycles since his passing in 1980. Following his death, this Jeep would remain a part of his estate until 1984 when it was sold at his estate auction, its first time being offered at auction. Following that sale the Willys found its way to Europe where it remains today.

In early November the Jeep will again be auction off, this time in Birmingham, UK as part of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show sale. Projections have the sale of the car over six-figures and anywhere between $100,000-$130,000.

New Crate Engine Lineup Powers Classic Chevy’s To SEMA

When you hear crate these days it’s usually been prefaced by Demon, but that’s about to change as Chevrolet gears up to debut three crate engines of their own at SEMA.

The three engines will make their debut in three classic Chevy’s bridging the gap between old and new. Two of the three will be trucks, a 1967 C/10 with a ZZ6 EFI engine and a 1978 K10 Silverado with a L96. However, the third, and show stealer, is a 1973 Chevelle Laguna featuring a LT5 6.2L supercharged crate engine, the same engine as the ZR1.

Having made a name for itself in NASCAR in the 70s the Laguna again beckons for attention with the addition of a 755hp and 715lb.-ft. of torque engine dropped in for SEMA. According to Chevrolet the car will also have their, “first dual-fuel system, featuring direct injection and supplementary port injection, as well as a new, larger-displacement supercharger to boost the engine’s air charge.” The Laguna will also have a modern carbon fiber hood adapted from the current ZR1, but pay tribute to its past with front and rear spoilers reminiscent of its NASCAR brethren.

All three cars will be on display at SEMA later this month in Las Vegas, NV.

1953 Packard Caribbean Makes Us Go Chic-Chic-Ky-Boom

All that’s missing from this 1953 Packard Caribbean is you in a Panama hat, but that could change as it heads to auction in Chicago at the end of this month.

The Caribbean was made by Packard for three years from 1953-1956 as a convertible only, it wasn’t until that final 1965 production year that the sedan was added. This Caribbean is a representative of that first year run and one of only 750 to be produced in 1953. Though the green exterior might be a little dark for the tropics the white interior with green accents is all Caribbean. Under the hood it features a 327 CI Thunderbolt inline 8-cylinder engine and a Ultramatic automatic transmission.

A first year car with only 750 ever made, these Caribbeans are very desirable to collectors and the one here is projected by Mecum Auctions to fetch anywhere between $60,000-$80,000.
