You’ve already seen the Toyota Supra that will be making its NASCAR debut in a little over a month, but today, for the first time, Toyota has unveiled the Supra you can call your own.
Uncovering the car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota has already sent VIN20201, the first production unit, to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction where it will be sold Saturday for charity. However, there will be plenty of the 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo six powered Supras for you to grab one of your own without paying top-dollar. The car’s turbocharged engine helps make this the quickest Toyota in history thanks to its 335 hp and 365 lb.-ft. of torque giving the car a 4.1-second 0-60 time.
The first global model from Toyota GAZOO Racing the car is truly race inspired. From its angles and 50:50 weight distribution to the governed 150mph top-speed this new Supra is a driver’s car. Helping the driver get maximum performance out of it is just two driving modes: Normal and Sport. Because really, what else do you need. Normal is as one would guess, normal, while Sport, “provides track-driving capability by reducing intervention of the traction and stability control functions as well as sharpening throttle response, increasing steering weight, improving transmission shift crispness, more aggressive active differential tuning and amplifying exhaust sound.”
All-in-all it looks like Toyota has done the Supra name justice and built a car which is bound to make a lot of track day enthusiast, among others, quite happy when it hits showrooms and their garage.
