Four Dodge Demons Led By Michael Andrettis’ Head To Same Auction

Is it a testament to the market’s demand for the Dodge Demon given the limited run or to the impracticality of the straight-line car? You be the judge, but either way four are currently listed for sale at a singular auction in Dallas, of all places, hosted by Mecum Auctions.

The most interesting of the three is one that was built for Michael Andretti. Yes, that Michael Andretti of open-wheel racing fame. However, built for him it’s clear that Andretti prefers a car that can perhaps corner a little better as it was never driven or even dealer prepped and only has its 13 delivery miles on the odometer. It is no. 47 of the first 50 produced for VIPs and execs.

His is not the only low mileage Demon of the bunch, in fact a couple others are listed under the 10 mile mark. One is also listed as only 1 of 8 in purple which adequately compliments Andretti’s bold yellow. It will be interesting to see what the market does for these four in Dallas and competing against one another. As it stands Andretti’s will undoubtedly set the bar and the other three will jockey for position behind.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. Drifts Entire Nurburgring

Foiled last year by rain and forced to drift a stock Ford Raptor around the infamous Ring, professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. returned to the Green Hell this year to attempt to drift the entire 12.9 mile Nordschleife.

Given the length of the track and the power his 900hp engine was sending to the wheels he undoubtedly had to change tires a few times, but nevertheless the action is non-stop around the narrow course. However, if you’re looking for a blistering pace around the Ring then this might not be for you, but if you’re looking for a “good time, not a lap time” as Vaughn put it, well, enjoy!

Rare 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Leads Auction

In 1966 just 20 examples of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray were made with the 427/390hp engine and Powerglide automatic transmission option and this is one those 20.

Purchased in 1966 this rare Stingray’s owner would check off nearly every option available. In fact, of the 18 factory options this car would come equipped with 16 making it one of the most well equipped Stingrays existing today. The original owner held onto the car for 45 years after purchasing it new in Arizona and it has remained in a climate-controlled environment for the majority of that time.

This Nassau Blue ‘Vette will make the not too far trek from it’s original Arizona home to Las Vegas this weekend for Barrett-Jackson’s annual auction.

Epic Drag Race Straight Out Of Childhood Dreams

A motorcycle, Tesla, Formula One car, a couple airplanes sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but in reality it was the field of one of the cooler drag races you’ll see.

The race went down in Istanbul, Turkey at an aerospace and technology festival with the Kawasaki H2R, driven by former Supersport World Champion Kenan Sofuoglu proving victorious by .04 second margin.

Volkswagen Gives Glimpse Of Future With I.D. BUZZ CARGO

A while back the manufacturer made quite a… buzz with the I.D. BUZZ and now Volkswagen is back again with the cargo variant.

This zero emissions van could see the streets as early as 2021 and while it’s not a flying car it does have futuristic written all over it. The CARGO has a range of up to 320 miles on a single battery cycle and with the use of solar on the rood can extend the van’s daily range by 9.3-miles. The battery can charge to 80% in just 15 minutes with a fast charging system and about 30 minutes via a standard application. The CARGO is cargo van after all featuring a max payload of just under one-ton at, 1,760 pounds.

Further futuristic touches come by way of added convenience. Per Volkswagen, “the front doors and sliding door open electrically. Unlocking the vehicle from the outside is activated via a sensor. The I.D. BUZZ CARGO recognizes authorized persons via a digital key which is sent to the van from a smartphone.”

“Machstang” Perfect Example Of Resto-Mod, Wordplay

This 1971 Ford Mustang Fastback saw over 2,500 hours of labor to create and it shows from the road up.

The purpose built show car is said to have had, “every square inch of frame, body, suspension, interior and drivetrain replaced, modified or massaged” in route to becoming the Resto-Mod it is today. It features a custom Art Morrison chassis, a coilover 4-link rear suspension and a Mustang II front suspension. Under the hood the car is equally as extravagant with a “Vortech supercharged big-block 502ci Chevrolet power plant was installed and features Ram Jet fuel injection, aluminum oval port heads, a forged-steel crankshaft, forged all-aluminum pistons, a COMP cam and custom-built headers, all producing an estimated 725 net horsepower rating,” according to its Barrett-Jackson listing.

Some unique touches include a Corvette 6-speed manual transmission and rear lights molded from a a ‘69 Shelby Mustang, both of which give credence to its “Machstang” name. Obviously you have Mustang and Mach as in Mach 1 Mustang, but also mock as in “not authentic or real” because, after all, this is not factory restoration, but a Resto-Mod.

The “Machstang” will cross the block next weekend at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas.

1957 Buick Super Convertible Lives Up To It’s Name

Who would have thought that over 50 years ago Buick would so aptly name a car surviving to this day, but that’s exactly what they did with this 1957 Buick Super Convertible.

Not only is the car super, but this example underwent a body-off restoration and is damn near perfect. Power steering, windows and brakes will make driving this classic a breeze if that’s what you choose to do it, but your best option is to buy it for its future value.

In fact, earlier in 2018 Mecum, who is also listing this one, saw a similar ’57 go for $121,000 at their Kissimmee auction putting it well on the high side of their $100,000 – $125,000 estimate. This Super looks to follow in its six-figure footsteps at Mecum Dallas in early October.

Ram Bringing Mojave Sand Edition For Q4 Only

FCA you’ve done it again. Not anything particularly impressive, but the ability to launch limited-edition after limited-edition. The latest example comes from the Ram line of trucks, the biggest culprit, by way of the 2018 Ram Power Wagon Mojave Sand edition.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the new Mojave Sand color and all-black wheels, but that’s it. Literally, thats the entire package. Seems more suited just being a color option at the dealer for an additional cost verse having someone even punching keys to issue a press release about this limited-edition truck. However, that’s just the way FCA rolls and I suppose if they got me typing about it now they’re doing something right.

The 2018 Ram Power Wagon Mojave Sand edition will set you back $795 and will only be available the fourth-quarter of this year.

Burt Reynolds Legacy Lives On At Auction This Month

Burt Reynolds had a career like very few before him, from the length of his career to the roles he played, but most unique to Burt is the impact his movies had on car culture. Case and point this trio of a pickup and two Firebirds headed to Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas starting September 27th.

The first car needs truly needs no introduction, but for those in the back it’s a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This re-creation of the iconic Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am is being offered by Burt Reynolds Collection and Bandit Movie Cars Florida, LLC and was built under the direction of Reynolds to be as close to the actual movie car as possible.

Another Firebird will also cross the stage; however, not a Bandit one as one might guess, but a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula Hooper re-creation. Offered out of the same collection, this 1978 is said to be, “one of the last cars in Mr. Reynold’s personal collection.”

Lastly, further showing the depth of his impact on cars in film, is a 1987 Chevrolet R30 pickup. This re-creation is again a part of the same collection and pays tribute the film Cannonball Run. While it was created to match the Indy Hauler pace truck in the film, this ’87 has been upgraded with some modern amenities such as power steering, brakes and air conditioning.

As to where these cars end up, well, your guess is as good as mine, but they have already found a home in movie history for decades to come.

Gas Monkey’s 280Z Goes Up In Flames

Last season you watched as Gas Monkey Garage completed work on their first tuner car, a 1975 Datsun 280Z and today we mourn its loss. Life is cruel that way.

Originally purchased by Richard for $8,000 the car was was now practically priceless, to us and fans anyway making a name for itself at SEMA before being sold. However, this fan favorite 2+2 is now nearly worthless after being transported with six other cars when the trailer went up in flames. And the flames you’d expect from a SR20 engine producing 400hp.

At this point we don’t know what other cars perished or what caused the fire, but ultimately, the Datsun lived up to its name, sun meaning “loss” in Japanese.

Ferrari Unveils The Monza SP1, Monza SP2

First things first, I’ll never own, drive or probably even see one in person either, but let’s not let that get us all worked up and distracted from this amazing Ferrari reveal.

The Monza SP1 and Monza SP2 were unveiled today by Ferrari as part of their new Icona line (and I love it, a little Icona Pop reference for you there). As you may have guessed the SP1 refers to the single-seater while the SP2 is the manufacturer’s two-seater. Both cars will feature a 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 799hp and 530lb.-ft. of torque taking the cars from 0-62mph in just 2.9-seconds and 0-124mph in 7.9-seconds. The pair have a top speed of 186mph.

Both cars are undoubtedly two of the sleekest designed, but the SP2 invokes a little too much of the California if we’re being snobby and I am. However, the SP1 with no windscreen aside from a “virtual” one and single seat setup is stunning. I’ve yet to see a timeframe or price for the release of the cars, but not enough couch cushions in the world for me to scrounge up the change so who cares?

Jesse’s Jetta From ‘Fast And The Furious’ For Sale

Are you looking for the perfect car to enter Race Wars? Look no further than this 1995 Volkswagen Jetta.

This low-mileage Jetta, the odometer reads 21,300, was the exact one that Jesse took to Race Wars in the OG Fast and the Furious. Sure, it ended up losing to Tran in his Honda S2000, but it’s still an iconic movie car and one that is now, according to the Autotrader listing, owned by Frankie Muniz of Malcom in the Middle fame.

The car is listed as it was in the movie which means a, “2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with automatic transmission.” As well as a custom stereo and PlayStation 2 inside the car because after all this was 2001 and that was the pinnacle of luxury!

If you’re interested in buying not building or more likely just want a cool piece of cinematic history the car is listed here and features the signatures of Paul Walker, Chad Lindberg (Jesse) and director Rob Cohen. The current asking price is $99,900.

Powerful 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Heads To Sin City

When we say powerful we’re not doing so as just another adjective to get you to click this story, but this ’68 Dodge Charger R/T is truly a beast.

Rolling off the Hamtramck, MI assembly line on December 20, 1967 this Dodge R/T originally featured a 440 magnum, but has since been replaced for even more power by a 426ci HEMI engine. An engine upgrade that would certainly give the Bullitt Mustang a run for its money. That’s right, for those who felt this car seemed familiar it is, without a doubt, an homage to the “bad guys” in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt.

In addition to its engine upgrade, the Dodge features a: 4-speed manual transmission with pistol grip, Tic-Toc-Tach, 3-speed wiper motor and Strange axles with 3:73 gears. All the while keeping the menacing black on black look with a black vinyl interior to match the black exterior set off by period correct wheels.

This infamous make and model will cross the block in just under two weeks at Mecum Auctions’ Las Vegas auction.
