Volkswagen set out to set records at Pikes Peak and it’s no surprise they did, but by just how much is mind blowing.
With Romain Dumas being the wheel of the purpose built 680hp, twin-engine prototype he was able to climb to the clouds in 7m 57.148s. In doing so he, and Volkswagen, broke the all-time record by 16 seconds and broke the electric vehicle record.
Though a purpose built racer the I.D. R represents the range of Volkswagen’s electric cars to come in the next few years. And given the I.D. R was built in just 8 months we should all be optimistic about the manufacturer’s electric future.
