If you aren’t already used to truck announcements coming out of Detroit, get used to it. The big three, amongst others, are betting big on trucks which means a plethora of models and trims like this 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, the third all-new Silverado debuted in the past year and a half.
While it is the third Silverado in a short timeframe, the Silverado HD only shares its roof with the 1500 meaning every other piece of exterior sheet metal is specific to the all-new 1500. The 2020 HD not only brings cosmetic changes to the Silverado lineup, but power ones with the “all-new gasoline engine with direct injection mated to a six-speed transmission, or the Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8, which delivers 910 lb-ft of torque through an all-new, Allison 10-speed transmission.”
The truck is part of GM’s three-truck strategy: a midsize, full-size light-duty and full-size heavy-duty. Adopting this format in 2014 the manufacturer has seen great success becoming the “best-selling truck manufacturer” every year since selling 600,000 more trucks than the second place manufacturer.
With a release date slated for mid-2019 and as fast as manufacturers are moving on trucks don’t be surprised if you hear of another trim level to the HD lineup, it’s a truck world these days and cars are just living in it.
