The following statement could ruffle some feathers, but… Japanese customizers do the best car work in the world. This doesn’t mean others are bad, but having visited numerous custom shops there and attended custom shows it has become a truth to me. That being said, CUSTOM WORKS ZON of Japan appears to also be a world class motorcycle customizer.
Commissioned by BMW Motorad the bike debuted a couple weeks back at the Hot Rod Custom Show in Yokohama, Japan. It was built by the shop’s founders Yuichi Yoshizawa and Yoshikazu Ueda as a way of highlighting BMW Motorad’s prototype boxer engine and by the look of things, they succeeded. Details about the engine are being held back and relayed in such a way that BMW almost seemed surprised by it in their press release:
There was a lot of speculation at the show about the prototype engine. The external geometry and visible elements such as the push rods running above the cylinders in chrome-plated protection ducts recall BMW Motorrad boxer engines that were built until the late 1960s – but with an evidently larger capacity and a modern air/oil cooling.
That’s your engine! Why are you staring at it like the rest of us at a car show!? No matter what’s actually going on with the engine the bike took home the “Best of Show Motorcycle” award, for obvious reasons.
