Ram Introduces 2019 Heavy Duty Lineup At NAIAS

Ram took to America’s car capital, Detroit, to introduce their 2019 heavy duty lineup which they’re billing as, “the most powerful, most capable pickup in the segment.”

That claim stems from the trucks 1000lb.-ft of torque being produced out of the Cummins I-6 Turbo Diesel engine which gives the heavy duty Ram a towing capacity of 35,100 lbs. and a payload capacity of 7,680 lbs. The engine is also delivering 400hp all the while itself weighing 60lbs. less than its predecessor. The truck also features two additional engine options, a Cummins Turbo Diesel producing 370hp and 850lb.-ft or torque and a non-diesel 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 with 410hp and 429lb.-ft. of torque.

In order to ensure a smooth ride with or without a payload Ram utilized a Frequency Response Damping setup. The FRD shocks in each corner, “automatically adjust for the type of vertical wheel input, allowing the Ram Heavy Duty to have sports-car-like suspension for handling and a supple suspension on rough terrain.”

To match the Heavy Duty’s exterior is a massive 12-inch touchscreen featuring Uconnect 4C NAV, an app which can be displayed across the whole screen or the screen divided into two running two apps simultaneously. However, if you’re a man of more simple means a 7-inch display is available for the Heavy Duty.

The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty will be built at the company’s Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico and available later this year.

2020 Toyota Supra Makes World Debut In Detroit

You’ve already seen the Toyota Supra that will be making its NASCAR debut in a little over a month, but today, for the first time, Toyota has unveiled the Supra you can call your own.

Uncovering the car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota has already sent VIN20201, the first production unit, to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction where it will be sold Saturday for charity. However, there will be plenty of the 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo six powered Supras for you to grab one of your own without paying top-dollar. The car’s turbocharged engine helps make this the quickest Toyota in history thanks to its 335 hp and 365 lb.-ft. of torque giving the car a 4.1-second 0-60 time.

The first global model from Toyota GAZOO Racing the car is truly race inspired. From its angles and 50:50 weight distribution to the governed 150mph top-speed this new Supra is a driver’s car. Helping the driver get maximum performance out of it is just two driving modes: Normal and Sport. Because really, what else do you need. Normal is as one would guess, normal, while Sport, “provides track-driving capability by reducing intervention of the traction and stability control functions as well as sharpening throttle response, increasing steering weight, improving transmission shift crispness, more aggressive active differential tuning and amplifying exhaust sound.”

All-in-all it looks like Toyota has done the Supra name justice and built a car which is bound to make a lot of track day enthusiast, among others, quite happy when it hits showrooms and their garage.

The All-New Shelby GT500 Has Arrived

The debut of the 2020 Shelby GT500 not only gives Mustang fans a new Stang to drool over, but gives all Ford fans the brand’s “most powerful street-legal Ford in history.”

Packing a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 under the hood the GT500 is kicking out more than 700hp via the help of a, “2.65-liter roots-type supercharger with air-to-liquid intercooler.” All of that power makes its way to the wheels by way of a TREMEC 7-speed dual-clutch transmission which is capable of shifts in under 100 milliseconds and is the byproduct of Ford’s GT development. Making sure the car can handle the power on the road is Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with 16.5-inch Brembo brakes all working in unison with the latest MagnaRide suspension. These performance initiatives by Ford give the GT500 a mid-three-second 0-60 mph and sub-11-second quarter-mile time.

Though its undoubtedly the performance that Ford was focused on, and its fans will be as well, the GT500 is a street-legal car and therefore doesn’t sleep on the street car amenities. The Shelby has a, “12-inch full-color LCD instrument cluster, while a high-performance custom-tuned 12-speaker B&O Play premium audio system is available. All of this is controlled via an 8-inch SYNC 3 touch screen featuring SiriusXM and FordPass Connect.”

The 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 is slated to arrive this fall.

Watch This Brand New McLaren Senna Burn To The Ground

What’s there to say really that the title doesn’t? Well, that might be everything you need to know to want to watch, but there is a little more to the story.

The, basically, street legal F1 car named for the sport’s Ayrton Senna was titled to YouTube star Alejandro aka Salomondrin who had taken possession of his McLaren Senna no more than two weeks before it burst into flames while out on a drive. Being ever the YouTuber, the channel took its time in rolling out the actual footage of the car burning with two videos going up teasing it in the past week and the actual fire happening, obviously, prior to that.

Check it out in the video below which Alejandro does a fantastic job breaking down every element of the tragic fire.

‘Gone In 60 Seconds’ Eleanor Up For Grabs… Legally

Tell your band of car stealing misfits to take Saturday, January 19th off because this 1967 Ford Mustang is being sold legally at Barrett-Jackson.

In fact, this year’s Scottsdale auction will see five “Eleanor” tributes cross the block, but this ’67 Fastback is unique in that it actually appeared in the Nicolas Cage film, Gone in 60 Seconds. The car will be sold with a certificate of authenticity by Cinema Vehicle Services stating that it was one of the Mustangs used in the street scenes of the film and will be sold with the license plate it wore in the film.

Since this car was actually driven in the film it is more than just a rolling chassis packing a 351ci Ford Motorsport crate engine, 3 speed automatic transmission and Total Control suspension. Easily one of the more iconic movie cars in history this ’67 Ford Mustang is ripe for any film buff, Mustang collector or Nic Cage fan, but we doubt there are too many of the latter willing to fork over this kinda money.

Post Malone Takes Delivery Of VelociRaptor 6×6

Hennessey Performance recently delivered a one-of-a-kinda VelociRaptor 6×6 to rapper Post Malone and it’s sick.

The truck which starts at $349,000 includes base upgrades such as, “upgraded twin turbochargers, stainless steel exhaust modifications, upgraded front mounted air to air intercooler and plumbing and re-tuned factory computer.” Additionally, the exterior features an “upgraded Fox suspension, upgraded 20-inch wheels and off-road tires, special front and rear bumpers, rollbar and LED lights.” Though the sky is the limit for customers at Hennessey Performance and in this truck you’re sitting pretty high in the sky.

Post took his upgrades further with the addition of his tattoos on the brake calipers and shocks as well as a .50 caliber machine gun mount for the bed shaped like barbed wire to match his iconic face tattoo. Checkout the delivery and his initial reaction in the video below.

Harley-Davidson Continues Electric Push With Two New Concepts

The Consumer Electronic Show is off and running in Las Vegas and with electronic right there in the name Harley-Davidson felt it as good a time as any to debut two new electric concepts and reveal pricing for the LiveWire.

While it is certainly the concepts that are eye catching, and perhaps not for the right reason, Harley spent the bulk of their press release focusing on the LiveWire’s price and ordering options. A sensical angle as the struggling brand is looking to the electric future and that bike to help right their ship; however, with an MSRP of $29,799 this could prove challenging. While features like no clutch, no shifting and 100% instant torque resulting in 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds could intrigue a new generation of Harley riders it seems unlikely at that price point they’d be willing to buy.

As for the two new concepts Harley had simply this to say, “both concepts bring Harley-Davidson’s expertise in expressive two-wheeled experiences and push boundaries in design and technology.” It’s clear the concepts are more inline with original motorcycles which were more or less motorized bicycles, but just as the motorcycle evolved into what people love today it will need to evolve back if Harley has any chance at designs of this nature succeeding.

Gary Sinise Foundation Partners With GMG For Barrett-Jackson Auction

When Lieutenant Dan calls, you answer and when veterans are in need of assistance, you come running (unless you have bone spurs). We at Gas Monkey were fortunate enough to partake in a build with the Gary Sinise Foundation and Sunbelt Rentals for a future episode of Fast ‘N Loud.

“While building cars is our passion, this build allowed us the pleasure of aiding Gary Sinise in his passion for helping, “our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.” Ultimately, this 1981 custom Jeep CJ7 (lot #3005) will do just that when it crosses the block at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Scottsdale auction with 100% of the hammer price benefiting the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more. – via Gary Sinise Foundation

The CJ7’s most striking feature is the white exterior with accents honoring all branches of the United States military as well as the foundation’s logo. Additionally, the chassis has been painted blue to bring the patriotic notes of the exterior to the Jeep’s undercarriage which also features a 4-inch lift.

This custom goes far beyond just looks with a completely rebuilt original 258cu.-in. 4.2-liter engine with a BorgWarner T150 3-speed transmission. On the inside custom Speedhut and Redline Gauge Works gauges also pay tribute to the cause and are accompanied by the Gary Sinise Foundation challenge coin.

Given a new life of its own, this CJ7 looks to pay it forward on January 18th when it crosses the Barrett stage at 5:30 P.M. MST. Bidding can be done in person or online/by phone.

Six Figure Cars Dominate Top 5 At Mecum… So Far

We’re just over the halfway mark of the MASSIVE Kissimmee, Florida Mecum Auction which runs through Sunday and began a week ago Thursday. With so many cars crossing the block let’s take a look at the top 5 sold so far as we approach the final weekend of the sale.

5. 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo – $110,000

A perennial favorite in the automotive world, this Gallardo is frankly nothing beyond that. With a believed 20,000 miles it hammered for $110,000 which was well below $195,000 MSRP.

4. 2013 Bentley Continental GTC – $115,500

Similarly to the Gallardo there isn’t much to this GTC beyond high-end luxury. However, for a car that could easily function as a daily driver the Bentley shows a low 11,707 miles on the odometer.

3. 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible – $134,750

Now we’re talking our language with the only classic car to crack the top 5 so far in Florida. This ’67 ‘Vette is part of the Moss Classic Car Collection and features a 427 cu.-in. 435hp V8 engine.

2. 2008 Ferrari F430 Spider – $137,500

Frankly a white Ferrari just doesn’t do much for me, but suppose beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder as this F430 Spider has the second highest sale price of the auction so far.

1. 2005 Ford GTX1 – $319,000

A bit of a price difference here at number one with this Ford GTX1 commanding over twice as much as the second place car. No. 24 of 30 produced by Genaddi Design Group in Green Bay, Wisconsin this is the only one in this color combination. The car features a 5.4L V8 engine with a Whipple Supercharger and adorns signatures of some of the most famous names in Ford, from Carroll Shelby to Henry Ford III.

Walmart Uses Classic Famous Cars In Epic Commercial

As if Walmart was struggling to get their name out there this new 90 second spot from the retailer will make sure everyone knows their name and about their new grocery pickup service.

Since debuting yesterday the commercial has just under 17 million views (at time of publishing) and is nowhere near finished yet. The premise of the commercial is summed up by the tagline “Pickup is free. No matter what you drive.” and the brand takes the latter part to extreme levels incorporating numerous iconic film and television cars. The end result is an epic trip down memory lane, regardless of age, all the while promoting a modern service. Well done Walmart, well done.

Here are the references we spotted, but wouldn’t be surprised if they snuck a few past us.

‘Michael 50’ Exhibit Opens Paying Tribute To Legend

One of the greatest tragedies in motorsports is that of Michael Schumacher. Follow racing long enough and you’re bound to witness the spectrum of injuries on the track, but what makes Schumacher’s so devastating is that it happened off the track during his retirement.

In December of 2013 Schumacher was involved in a skiing accident that resulted in a coma and injuries that to this day have him undergoing treatment removed from public life. That was six years ago and now on the heels of his 50th birthday Ferrari has debuted Michael 50, an exhibition dedicated to his racing career and time with Scuderia Ferrari.

The exhibition is located at Ferrari’s Maranello Museum and pays tribute to the driver’s unmatched seven F1 championships, 91 victories and 155 podiums with various milestone achieving cars on hand. Additionally, the exhibit showcases Ferraris that the famed German driver would play a role in developing during his retirement such as the 430 Scuderia and the Ferrari California.

The Schumacher exhibit joins the already running Driven by Enzo and Passion and Legend exhibits at the Italian museum.
