Ram took to America’s car capital, Detroit, to introduce their 2019 heavy duty lineup which they’re billing as, “the most powerful, most capable pickup in the segment.”
That claim stems from the trucks 1000lb.-ft of torque being produced out of the Cummins I-6 Turbo Diesel engine which gives the heavy duty Ram a towing capacity of 35,100 lbs. and a payload capacity of 7,680 lbs. The engine is also delivering 400hp all the while itself weighing 60lbs. less than its predecessor. The truck also features two additional engine options, a Cummins Turbo Diesel producing 370hp and 850lb.-ft or torque and a non-diesel 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 with 410hp and 429lb.-ft. of torque.
In order to ensure a smooth ride with or without a payload Ram utilized a Frequency Response Damping setup. The FRD shocks in each corner, “automatically adjust for the type of vertical wheel input, allowing the Ram Heavy Duty to have sports-car-like suspension for handling and a supple suspension on rough terrain.”
To match the Heavy Duty’s exterior is a massive 12-inch touchscreen featuring Uconnect 4C NAV, an app which can be displayed across the whole screen or the screen divided into two running two apps simultaneously. However, if you’re a man of more simple means a 7-inch display is available for the Heavy Duty.
The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty will be built at the company’s Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico and available later this year.
