Announcing the Top Six Pre-Competition EcoCAR Teams!

The EcoCAR 3 Year 4 competition is underway and over 300 students, organizers and sponsors have set up shop at the General Motors Desert Proving Grounds in Yuma, Arizona, where teams will test and refine their vehicles before heading to Los Angeles for a week of presentations and events.

Last night, students stepped away from the garage for time-honored EcoCAR 3 tradition: Skit night, hosted this year at Z’s Fun Factory. At Skit Night, teams shared thirty-second parody videos, and had a chance to race go-karts, play mini golf, and socialize. The organizers also announced the winners of a few pre-competition deliverables. Find the skit videos and award announcements below.

Pre-competition award winners:

• Best Final Impact Report – Ohio State University
• Best Influence Marketing Materials – University of Alabama
• Execution Plan – Virginia Tech
• Best Emissions Testing Event Performance – Ohio State University
• Best Emissions Testing Event Performance Runner Up – Georgia Tech
• NSF Best Innovation Research Papers – Ohio State University

Top Skit Night Videos:

• 3^rd Place – $100 Prize – Colorado State
• 2^nd Place – $200 Prize – University of Waterloo
• 1^st Place – $300 Prize – Arizona State University

Teams have had a chance to earn 280 out of 1,000 points going into competition. Here are the current standings:

• 6^th Place – 220 Points – University of Tennessee
• 5^th Place – 226 Points – Georgia Tech
• 4^th Place – 232 Points – West Virginia University
• 3^rd Place – 236 Points – University of Alabama
• 2^nd Place – 242 Points – Virginia Tech
• 1^st Place –  264 Points – Ohio State University
