Willys-Overland Motors, or more commonly Willys, may not have the name recognition today that Ford, Chevy and Dodge have, but their contribution to the American automotive landscape was monumental. In 1941 the Toledo, OH based automaker would begin manufacturing one of the most iconic vehicles of all time in support of the war effort in Europe. The vehicle would be known in its military capacity as the Willys MB and CJ for civilians. Years later it would become known by the name it still holds today, Jeep.
Jeeps may remain popular to this day, but Willys legacy is deeper than just that of the MB and CJ. In fact, before WWII derailed production Willys was producing the Americar from 1937 to 1942 which remains an icon of the hot rod movement today. This 1940 Willys Coupe keeps the classic styling of Willys and hot rods past, but has been completely updated to fit the needs of the modern driver. Underneath it all is an Art Morrison chassis and a GM 5.7L LS1 aluminum V8 engine is paired to a GM 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission.
