Daily Monkey | 1976 Ford Bronco

Do it. Don’t do it. Do it. Don’t do it. Do it… Like O.J. Simpson the Ford Bronco was built to compete. Developed by Ford to take on the CJ and Scout the Bronco entered the market place in 1966, just three years prior to O.J. being taken as the number one overall pick in the NFL draft. The original Bronco was conceived from the ground up by Donald Frey, of Ford Mustang fame, but in doing so the Bronco lacked the power and towing capability to ever succeed, unlike O.J.

The first-generation Bronco would exist relatively unchanged through it’s over a decade run due to low sales and Ford’s reluctance to put any amounts of big money behind it as a result. However, in 1973 the Bronco would receive a 200 cu in motor, up from a 170, and would lead to increased sales of the ’73. Coincidentally, that same year the NFL would see an increase their very own when Orenthal James would become the first player to rush for over 2,000 yards. By 1976, the year of this Bronco, the Bronco was a year from the end of the first generation and nearing a second-gen redesign. The final first-gen would be released as a 1977 model year, O.J.’s final year with the Buffalo Bills.
