We, as a people, try and maintain the ways of doing things we know and love, like putting gas in a car and not plugging it into a wall outlet, but technology is moving quick and every now and then it catches us truly by surprise. Case and point, Amazon’s new service with General Motors that delivers packages to your car.
Amazon Prime members, in 37 cities, that have an active OnStar account will be eligible and while that sounds like a niche group it’s seven million and counting as Amazon Key adds new cities. Seems cool at first, but the more you think about it the more you feel your face becoming the Jacki Chan WTF meme. The service works with same day, two-day and standard shipping meaning that you will need to know where you car will be in the future and coupling that with the fact the car needs to be in a public place means you’re limited to pretty much home or work. If home, just have them deliver to the door! If at work, well, you’ll know it’s secure verse your front patio, but at the cost of having to halfway be you’re own delivery man? Besides, who has actually had something stolen to the scale of getting genuinely amped for this service.
Sure the service may evolve into something that makes perfect sense, but for time being it poses more the question of, just because you can, should you?
