In the midst of all the auction action in Arizona this week, Worldwide Auctioneers held a one night auction that brought out numerous million dollar cars.
Judging by the way the room emptied after lot 62 the star was easily a 1939 Mercedes-Benz built for and used by Adolf Hitler at the height of his power. Being called, “the most historically significant automobile ever offered for public sale” it was unlike any car, not in terms of looks or mechanics, but in how it commanded the room, an eerie resemblance to the dictator once chauffeured in the car. Bidding reached seven-million on the car, but failed to sell even at such a staggering price. Joining the Mercedes in the million dollar club (but failing to hit reserve) was a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Semi Convertible which Dennis Collins called a “holy grail” car that got as high as $1.3 million, but short of the $1.6 – $1.9 million estimate.
Despite these cars failing to sell they undoubtedly stole the show providing those in attendance what was most likely once in a lifetime action. And while these two cars didn’t sell, plenty of amazing cars did making for one exciting evening under the Arizona sky.
