’69 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Finds Second Life In Europe

As the ’60s came to an end it marked the beginning for the third-generation Corvette which would run from 1968 to 1982 model years. A quintessential American car, this ’69 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has had an interesting journey.

Like most cars in the U.S. at that time the ’69 ‘Vette was a brainchild of Detroit and like many this ‘Vette found its way to the American Heartland, Omaha, Nebraska. The year was 1970 and the owner was Emery Emond who would just briefly use it as a road car before beginning its transition to racecar. In 1972 Emery would modify the car to meet the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) ‘A Production’ specifications. By May of 1973 Emery was ready to part ways with the car and would sell it to fellow racer Paul C. Jones whose Burlington, IA address would keep it in the heartland.

Paul would race the car throughout the 70s and into the mid-1980s racking up numerous podium finishes throughout its storied career. However, in 1985 the car would be parked until the passing of Paul in the early 2000s. At that time it would be sold to John Castrogiovanni of Scottsdale, Arizona and its journey from America would begin.

In 2004 John shipped the ‘Vette to Europe to undergo a full restoration with the desire to turn the classic American car into an endurance racecar. The car was extensively rebuilt and sold to its current owner who has used it to compete in the 2010, 2012 and 2014 editions of the Le Mans Classic. It features a aluminium block 454-cu. in. with a spare 427-cu. in. engine, along with numerous other spare parts. This classic American Corvette, having found a second life in Europe will go up to auction Wednesday, February 7th at RM Sotheby’s Paris.
