Watch the Lambo SVJ Reclaim The Ring Record

Well, it didn’t take long for the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ to restore the brand’s honor at the Ring.

The Italian manufacturer has announced their latest supercar has lapped Nurburgring with a time of 6:44.97 minutes. Given the camouflage on the car it’s shocking that cameras were even able to capture the SVJ as it hummed along by way of its estimated 800hp engine. Scheduled for a 2019 release the car will be at Pebble Beach late next month.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Features Largest Pickup Bed

Like rain on your wedding day or a free ride when you’re already late, it’s ironic that bed size is rarely brought up when talking trucks. While it’s certainly nice having the power and performance to rip through mud or tow a boat, their purpose was first and foremost to provide bed space and none today is better for that than the 2019 Silverado 1500 Durabed.

Not only does it have the largest bed, but it has some bells and whistles that you’d swear till now was just Chevy whistling dixie. Twenty one total tie downs (the most of any full size truck), optional LED lights and optional outlet along with an exclusive power up/down tailgate have the Silverado’s bed lightyears ahead.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is scheduled to go on sale later this year.

This Calypso Coral Mustang Boss 429 Is A Colorful Treat

Usually when you hear something is coral it invokes a cold sweat as you have flashbacks to the guest room that you’re forced to stay in at your in-laws, but this is not the case. In fact, the Calypso Coral on this 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback makes it more desirable.

In 1970 Ford had Kar Kraft build 500 of these Boss 429 Fastbacks and only 76 in this Calypso Coral combination. The plan behind the Mustang was for Ford to install 500 big-block NASCAR engines creating their very own “super Mustang.” However, the power plant proved to big for Ford to drop into the fastback, enter Ford’s partner race shop out of Brighton, Michigan, Kar Kraft. The team there was able to successfully drop in the cars 375hp engine making it the most powerful Mustang to that point.

In recent years this unique Mustang has undergone a full rotisserie restoration, including a rebuild of its number matching Boss 429. The exterior features a return to its original Calypso Coral paint, wheels and even new old stock glass. Truly a remarkably refurbished Mustang this Boss 429 will cross the block at Mecum’s Monterey auction.

Porsche Lifts Cover On New Macan At Shanghai World Premiere

It’s a strange time we live in when Porsche sales are majority SUVs from just two models and one such model, the Macan, sounds like a bird you’d tip a man a few buck on Venice Beach to take a picture with. Though, these are the times and today Porsche has debuted their newest Macan on their continued push toward SUVs.

As an SUV made essentially for city driving, in fact the car is exceptionally popular in China with over a third of lifetime sales coming there, the styling has appeared to take precedent over performance with the recent update. Taking cues from the 911 the Macan features similar LED lights, a steering wheel option from the GT and styling to match its iconic brethren.

Built for cruising, more so than trail or track, the Macan features an 11-inch screen, an element Porsche purists are most likely steaming from the ears over. Additionally, the interior sees a redesign to the AC vent placement and a new Traffic Jam Assist technology. The new Macan is certainly an upgrade even if the focus was primarily comfort and cosmetic, but, after all, that’s primarily what people are buying it for.

Yenko Brings 1000hp To Their 2019 Stage II Corvette

I know what you’re thinking, “you must be Yenko-ing my chain.” Fine, no one is thinking that, not just because it’s stupid, but because Yenko has become synonymous through the years with high-performance muscle cars.

The 2019 Stage II Yenko/SC Corvette will be limited to just 25 units and feature 1000hp. It will hit the four figure mark due to the ‘custom-built 416 C.I.D. (6.8L) LT-1 engine,” oh, and the custom supercharger and performance tune. Like any good limited run car it will also come with a plethora of badges on the exterior, on the supercharger, key fobs and so on.

Additionally, like most Specialty Engineering Vehicle cars, the second most impressive thing about it is the warranty. The engine, supercharger and non-powertrain all come with three year, 36,000 mile warranties and the transmission with a one year, 12,000 mile warranty.

My Fairlady! Stunning ’72 Nissan 240ZG Heads To Auction

A hot rod shop at its core, Gas Monkey Garage is equally as known for taking on some outside their wheelhouse builds; for example, the 1975 Datsun 280Z last year, a first for the garage. Well, here is a car of the same family, but one that needs no work, a 1972 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG.

Off the bat there are three glaring differences between the two cars (besides year/model, obviously). The first, the name. Nissan in Japan, the Datsun name was adopted for their U.S. imports. Second, the nose. The “G” stands for “grand” and wasn’t available in the U.S. and with it came upgrades such as the nose with acrylic covers over the headlights. Lastly, it’s right side drive which more than anything else should be a dead giveaway this car was not available in the U.S. when released.

Available in three colors, this 240ZG heads to auction with its original Grand Prix Maroon. Though the car has been refurbished it maintains its original black vinyl interior and a 2.4-liter inline six showing the car hasn’t remained idle through the years.

This rare, yet known in collector circles, Fairlady will cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction coinciding with Pebble Beach next month.

Take A Day Off, Buy This GT Spyder California From ‘Ferris Bueller’

This is one righteous 1985 Modena GT Spyder California. In fact, this is the “Ferrari” made famous in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off which Ferris borrowed from his friend Cameron’s father for his now infamous day off.

While devotees of the film will easily recall the car as a Ferrari, car aficionados would note that it was not a Ferrari at all, but rather a Modena. In fact, this is one of three Modenas built for the film. The El Cajon, CA builder utilized many Ferrari elements to create an exterior that closely resembled the Ferrari 250 GT California, but the fact remains the car is not.

Chassis N0.3 is being offered by Mecum Auctions at their high-dollar Monterey, CA auction in August and while this car doesn’t carry quite the accolades that Ferrari does it remains a pop culture icon and one that was recognized by the Smithsonian Historical Vehicle Association Hall of Fame as an inductee.

Watch Ken Block’s 1991 Ford Escort Cosworth Rollover, Burn

Most know Ken Block from his Gymkhana videos and as the man behind Hoonigan, but behind that polished persona is a racer and as a racer, shit happens. Ken and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino experienced that first hand this past weekend when during the New England Forest Rally the car burned to the ground.

Running third the duo had a gearbox issue which led to the 1991 Ford Escort Cosworth rolling and catching fire. Both Ken and Alex were able to escape the wreckage unharmed, thankfully, and thankfully for us Ken’s helmet cam rolling the entire time to catch all the madness of the rollover and ensuing flames.

Dodge Expands On Challenger Lineup With R/T Scat Pack 1320

There is a fine line between genius and madness and Dodge appears to be toeing it as they debut yet another Challenger variation, the R/T Scat Pack 1320.

Sure all the Challenger packages have been kickass in their own right, but it’s hard not to feel bad for Challenger owners of the base models of yesteryear. At a certain point enough is enough, right? Well, apparently that point is not quite yet as Dodge debuted their 2018 R/T Scat Pack 1320. Named for the quarter-mile distance (1320 feet) the 1320 features a 392 HEMI V8 that brings 485hp and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. What does that mean? According to Dodge it means this, “With a quarter-mile (1,320 feet) elapsed time (E.T.) of 11.7 seconds at 115 miles per hour (mph), the showroom-stock 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 is the fastest naturally aspirated, street-legal muscle car available.

Additional specs via Dodge:

-TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission – required equipment for the R/T Scat Pack 1320, replacing the standard manual transmission on the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack
-TransBrake – locks the output shaft of the automatic transmission to hold the car stationary before a standing start
-Torque Reserve – works in conjunction with the TransBrake by managing fuel flow to cylinders and controlling spark advance or retard to balance engine rpm and torque to maximize power delivery and launch performance
-Nexen SUR4G Drag Spec 275/40R20 street-legal drag radials – all-new specially developed tires that deliver exceptional grip at the drag strip and on the street
-Preproduction testing shows that the Nexen tires demonstrate consistent run times with minimal burnout preparation at the drag strip
-SRT-tuned three-mode Adaptive Damping Suspension (ADS) electronically retuned for the Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320
-Includes Drag Mode that, when engaged, optimizes weight transfer to the rear for best launch traction

LEGO Unboxes James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5

A picture is worth a thousand words or rather in this case, 1,290 pieces as LEGO’s James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 goes on sale.

The car first seen in the hit film Goldfinger makes its LEGO debut as a 1:8 scale model, but that doesn’t mean it can’t rival it’s predecessor. According to LEGO the mini Aston will feature, “working ejector seat, revolving number plates, radar tracker, hidden telephone, bulletproof shield, front wing machine guns and wheel mounted tyre scythes’”

Currently on sale the car is going for $170, but given the collectibility of LEGOs you maybe forking over a bit more, but still way less than its big brother.

This 1969 Dodge Charger Has A BIG Secret

If you know me you have no idea how much I like restomods because I don’t talk about, but let me tell you, I love restomods! I also now love Bumbera’s Performance in Katy, TX for gifting this 1969 Dodge Charger Hellcat Restomod to the world.

Not only is the car killer, keeping the classic exterior so pristine then hitting you with the Hellcat engine and modern interior, but their video editing is on point (check it out below!). Under the hood is the 707hp Hellcat engine with a stock automatic transmission and paddle shifters. Near the paddle shifters you’ll find a full modern SRT dash with touchscreen, push to start and AC to boot.

The juxtaposition of new and old is beautifully done and documented in not just the video but the pictures capturing the older essence of the car. I’m truly in awe.

‘Ultra-Limited’ GT-R Anniversary Edition Announced [Updated W/ Price!]

The Nissan GT-R is an oddity in the car world, yet there is nothing odd about it per se, but rather it’s the public perception. Nissan for most equals reliability, not performance and affordable, not six-figures, but the Nissan GTR is an incredibly performing and relatively speaking, affordable car. This is why news of “ultra-limited” GT-R has wet my whistle.

Based on the high-end 2018 GT-R NISMO this prototype will be a 50th anniversary edition designed in conjunction with Italiadesign, who also is celebrating 50 years. The tribute will feature a hand-assembled 710hp engine with 575lb.-ft. of torque inspired by the manufacturer’s GT3 racing program.

Other changes to the drivability of the car include, via Nissan:

Changes to the power plant include optimized twin high-flow, large-diameter GT3 competition-spec turbochargers and larger intercoolers; heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and bearings; high-flow piston oil jets; revised camshaft profiles; higher-flow fuel injectors; and optimized ignition, intake and exhaust systems. A reinforced dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle and stronger differentials and drive shafts direct the power to the wheels.

A revised suspension has been developed, featuring the BILSTEIN DampTronic® I continuously adjustable damping system. For braking, the Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes feature bright red, clearly visible calipers. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, sized 255/35 R21 in the front and 285/30 R21 in the rear, add a level of grip needed to harness the engine’s power.

Update: Let’s get some things out of the way early here: the GT-R is a kickass car, this one looks to be a kickass car, certain limited run cars are cool, certain high-dollar cars are cool. And with that out of the way let’s present to you the over ONE-MILLION DOLLAR GT-R50!

The current high end GT-R has an MSRP of $175,490 so let’s be generous and say $200,000. That makes the GT-R50 OVER five times the price. Assuming the extra power and cosmetic upgrades are worth $800,000 is a big assumption which puts a lot of the value then in the limited production numbers. As we all know that can be reason enough, but I don’t believe the name carries the gravitas nor the styling different enough to attribute that much value to the limited numbers either.

Will they sell? Yes. Will they sell a second time? Yes, but the question will be for how much.
