The secret is out that Japan is a major player on the car scene: major manufacturers, brilliantly done customization and downright crazy creations. They truly have it all. And now to that list you can add a “barn find” that rivals some of the greats, a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta Alloy by Scaglietti.
Production on the 365 GTB/4 lasted from 1969-1973 and during that period 1,200 of these ‘Daytonas’ were produced. And of that amount Ferrari commissioned only five lightweight alloy versions for competition which would make a name for the car at the 24 Hours of Daytona. As rare as just five cars from the ‘60s would be today this Ferrari’s number is lower, one. Just one of these aluminum bodied Daytonas was produced in a legal street version and this is that one.
Having first been sold to a close friend of Enzo Ferrari when it was completed in June of 1969 the car would change hands a couple times in its early years and find its way to Japan in 1971. Again, the car would see multiple owners in Japan before being purchased by Makoto Takai who would then hide it away in 1980 for nearly 40 years. It was during that time it would become a thing of legend.
The 365 GTB/4 has been verified by experts and is number matching with majority being original. It features Plexiglas headlights, power windows, a Rosso Chiaro exterior and leather interior. It is being sold in the “barn find” condition, yet still looks to bring over two-million for this, literally, one-of-a-kind Ferrari.
