In the 2010 census the town of Paul, Idaho had a population of just 1,169 people. Of those just over a thousand people was a man named Vernon Callan “Cal” Phillips and his car collection. However, Cal’s collection was not your typical few cars, he had amassed a near 80 car collection. In fact, Cal’s collection was so large that if counted in that same census they’d have increased the town’s population by about 7-percent.
Cal would pass away in 2013 at the age of 88 leaving behind his stunning collection to his family. Now, four years later, the family has decided to sell the collection, “as I’m sure you can imagine, it’s hard for our family to part with dad’s collection, as he restored nearly every one of these cars over the years,” said Sherri Anderson, Cal’s daughter.
His eclectic collection of cars, from early classics like a pair of Model T Fords and Willys to 60’s muscle like Mustangs, Camaros and Thunderbirds will all be crossing the block August 26th. Additionally, Cal’s collection includes some of the biggest names out of Europe: Mercedes, BMW and Bentley. In all, the collection spans from 1919 to 1991 with Fords anchoring both ends, a CP and F-150 XLT Lariat, respectively.
The auction is being held through Dealers Auto Auction of Idaho and will be open to public bidding, so get those paddles ready.
