Fresh off the sale of a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible at Mecum Chicago, the auction house looks to double down with the sale of a second next week in Las Vegas.
Only 518 of these convertibles were produced so seeing two crossing the block at consecutive auctions is as rare a treat as the car itself. The first to cross a week and a half ago set the bar with a sale price of $165,000 for the No. 2429 Shelby which was one of 267 produced with a factory 4-speed. Next week it will be No. 04415 being sold in Las Vegas as part of the Ardell Brown Estate Collection.
No. 04415 is one of only 43 to be painted Special Yellow and was completely restored in 1995. This ’68 packs the powerful 428 Cobra Jet which came as a mid-year replacement and in turn carries the KR moniker, a dig a Chevrolet who was rumored to be planning a “King of the Road” name, hence the KR. Projections for this KR have it anywhere from $140,000 – $160,000 and while it is technically rarer due to the color, odds are it won’t top the $165,000 bar set by its Chicago counterpart as the factory 4-speed trumps color.
