Cadillac V-Series Gets Commemorative Championship Editions

It was a banner year for Cadillac in the IMSA series with the manufacturer taking the title in the Manufacturer, Driver, Team and Endurance Championships. As a result, the manufacturer is celebrating with a special edition CTS-V and ATS-V.

Like many special editions your’re looking primarily at exclusive colors, interiors and wheels, but the Cadillac Championship Editions do offer up a plethora of carbon fiber, which with a car of this caliber is never a bad thing. Get the full rundown on options for each below.

Last Known ’71 Hemi ‘Cuda Is Auction Bound

In 1971 the Plymouth Barricuda was well established and entering its second year of its third-generation run. This mint ’71 Hemi ‘Cuda represents the last ever made of that model year, during which only 59 were ever known to have been made.

Having undergone a rotisserie restoration and with only 23,772 original miles this ‘Cuda is as much of a time machine to 1971 as it is a classic. Beneath the True Blue Metallic the car maintains most of its original parts from it’s shaker hood and body panels to its black interior. Additionally, underneath it all this ’71 features a “426/425hp Hemi engine mated to the original 4-speed manual transmission, and the original Dana 60 rear end with a Sure-Grip differential.” A true muscle car this classic Hemi ‘Cuda is bound to beef up the garage of the highest bidder at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, AZ next year.

Mercedes Debuts Third-Gen CLS With New Engine Options, Future Interior

Over a decade ago Mercedes-Benz founded a new segment when they debuted their CLS. The four-door coupe now returns for it’s third-generation installment at the L.A. Auto Show with three all-new engine options.

CLS 350 d 4MATIC (210 kW/286 hp, 600 Nm; combined fuel consumption 5.6 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 148 g/km)
CLS 400 d 4MATIC (250 kW/340 hp, 700 Nm; combined fuel consumption 5.6 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 148 g/km)
CLS d 450 4MATIC (270 + 16 kW/367 hp + 22 hp; combined fuel consumption 7.5 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 178 g/km)

Additionally, in keeping with the three theme of the third-gen, there are three different suspension packages offered to ensure the proper ride depending on the needs of the owner. And to that extent, the interior appears straight sci-fi and it’s not too far off. The fully digital cockpit allows for 46 colors to be utilized for ambient lighting and ENERGIZING comfort control ensures the perfect ride in an unbelievable manner. Six programs (fitness, warmth, vitality, joy, comfort, training) use a series of climate, lighting, seat, music and even fragrance to make for the perfect driving experience.

All-New 2018 Jeep Wrangler Premieres At L.A. Auto Show

The “most capable SUV ever” means, well, know idea what it means, but it’s what Jeep is calling their 2018 Wrangler and don’t let the ambiguity of the tagline fool you, it’s pure Jeep.

Taking cues from Jeep’s past the 2018 Wrangler embraces its heritage with a keystone-shaped grille, round headlights and square tail lamps and iconic fold down windshield. In keeping with the purpose built tradition of Jeeps prior the new Wrangler features, “unmatched capability with Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 systems, next-generation Dana axles, new Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case, Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited-slip differential and 33-inch off-road tires.”

New to 2018 and beyond is some powertrain options to truly be excited about. To start, a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine will be available for the first time, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and joining the lineup in 2019 will be a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6. Additionally, a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission will be offered.

Chevrolet Drops Corvette ZR1 Convertible, Pricing For Lineup

Just a few weeks removed from the world debut of the Corvette ZR1 coupe in Dubai, Chevrolet has brought the American classic home to the L.A. Auto Show where they premiered for the first time the convertible variant and pricing.

The convertible marks the first since 1970, the original ZR1 year. From coupe to convertible the performance remains the same, but the convertible has about 60 pounds in curb weight over its brethren. The weight stems primarily from the mechanical attributes of the top, which can be operated up to 30mph.

In addition to the weight, the price tag of the convertible is beefed up as well with an MSRP of $123,995 verse the $119,995 of the coupe.

Coveted Car Of The Year, Luxury Car Of The Year Named

Stateside Motor Trend has named the Alfa Romeo Giulia its 2018 Car of the Year. The annual COTY award for 2018 was given to what the magazine dubbed the “best representing exceptional value, superiority in its class and impact on the automotive scene.” This years field consisted of 26 models and 46 variants being judged before landing on the Giulia.

Across the pond BBC Top Gear Magazine has named the Rolls-Royce Phantom their Luxury Car of the Year. The award comes just weeks after the car made its global debut on the shore of Lake Lucerne in Vitznau, Switzerland.

Parked at the Statehouse: OSU Team Meets with Influencers

The Ohio State EcoCAR 3 team headed down to the Ohio Statehouse recently to speak with state legislators about the EcoCAR 3 competition and give legislators a look at the Ohio State team’s 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

Everyone had a great time –the legislators were able to get a peek under the hood of the Camaro and see exactly what the team has been working on. To help with the visuals, the team brought their 3D-printed powertrain of the Camaro to display at the event. It was a great way for the team to talk about the exciting and innovative technology coming out of The Ohio State University.

Legislators and staffers alike were in attendance, coming out to speak with the team about the redesigned Camaro and the team’s accomplishments over the past three years of the competition. Representative Adam Miller, Representative Richard Brown, Senator Frank LaRose and others were there learning about EcoCAR 3 and were welcomed to interact with the team and check out the championship car.

Team members were fueled up to talked about the plans for Year Four of the competition, and what the team is doing to bring the Camaro’s performance to new and exciting heights.

The team had a great time meeting with multiple Ohio senators and representatives, and were also able to share information about the competition with some passers-by who saw the car and came over to talk.

Pair of ’69 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s To Be Sold As Set

In 1969 Chevrolet produced the ZL1 Camaro for the first time with a run of just 69 and of that hyper limited run two are about to hit the market being sold as a pair.

It goes without saying that the low production numbers alone make these ZL1s very rare, but coupled with their collectibility makes a pair coming up together practically unheard of. These two ’69s both stem from the first 50 (numbers 18 and 30) to be sent to Fred Gibb in La Harpe, IL. Furthering increasing the rarity is the Dusk Blu paint of No. 18 which was one of just 10 and still features its original original all-aluminum 427 CI V-8 engine. In fact, both maintain their original engines with No. 30 having only 361 original miles.

Both ZL1s have undergone full restorations and restored to factory colors with factory paperwork. Offered as a pair when they cross at Mecum’s Kissimme, FL auction early next year its not a matter of it they sell, but for how much.

Become The King Of Cool With Steve McQueen’s “Le Mans” Suit

A name that resonates today with adults and children alike, Steve McQueen rose to fame in 1960’s Hollywood and survives today in popular culture. Known as the “King of Cool,” he became the man that everyone wanted to be punctuated by his badass stunts. Well, now you can get as close as to becoming the man as possible by owning his racing suit and helmet from in “Le Mans.”

Worn by the iconic actor in his hit film “Le Mans” the suit (suit, helmet, and underwear) was given away as a prize in 1971. The winner, a then teenager, was hoping for the grand prize Porsche 914, but would settle for the suit, which would remain in his family for 46 years. It now stands to part with them for the first time since being gifted to them when it heads to auction as part of RM Sotheby’s Icons 2017 auction in New York, NY. The suit stands to bring in close to half a million when sold with no reserve, not too shabby for a second place prize.
