In 1955 Chrysler launched the first 300 of their “letter series,” the 300-C. The following year they would launch the 300B and in 1957 the 300C and so on, skipping “I” and ending with the 300L in 1965. However, it was that third year, 1957 300C that helped solidify the “letter series” for the years to come and as an iconic name for the brand.
When the series launched the production numbers were relatively low, and remained that way through the entire run, but in 1957 they saw a significant increase going from about 1,100 to 2,400. Even more rare was the convertible variant, a first for 1957, which was limited to just 484 units with just about 40 or 12% are believed to exist today. A shame for the car which won Motor Trends “Car of the Year.”
This 300C has undergone restoration and still features its 392 CI V8 engine rated at 395hp, an upgrade from prior years. A rare Chrysler, this 300C heads to auction this weekend as a representative of style and performance of yesteryear and the model which solidified the 300C name to this day.
