When it comes to muscle cars of the ‘60s they were certainly different than today. And while that may sound like a blanket observation aimed at playing it safe, it is. The truth being, trying to compare the two is apples and oranges at this point when it comes to performance and in the eye of the beholder when it comes to styling, though these eyes prefer the past. However, car dealerships, particularly Grand Spaudling Dodge, were also very different than ones today.
On the corner of Grand and Spaulding brothers Norm and Len began selling used cars from their father’s gas station. After years of this a Dodge representative talked them into switching over to selling new Dodges, the Kraus brothers agreed. However, their plan was not whacky waving inflatable arm men or sign spinners, no, it was high performance and more power.
Looking away from the middle-aged muscle car buyer the dealership wanted to target a younger demographic. To do so they offered “Mr. Norm’s Sport Club,” Mr. Norm’s racing apparel and most importantly, and surprisingly, would tune the cars for significantly more power from the dealer. Grand Spaulding Dodge would quickly rise to the best-selling dealership in the country and Mr. Norm to legendary status in the muscle car world.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Grand Spaulding Dodge, Mr. Norm’s released a GSS Mr. Norm’s 50th Anniversary 2013 Dodge Challenger. Limited to just eight this is one of those eight. Adding to the already storied history of the car and its namesake is that it’s being sold by NFL legend Adam Vinatieri. The sale will take place at Mecum Chicago, the birthplace of Grand Spaulding Dodge.
