Line-Lock Lets You Do Burnouts Like A Pro In All 2018 Ford Mustangs

Formerly only available on the V8 Mustang GT, Ford is bringing their electric line-lock to all their pony cars. Traditionally used by drag racers, electronic line-lock allows for the driver to heat the tires before launching the car down the straightaway. However, thanks to Ford, all drivers of the 2018 Mustang will have the option of utilizing this feature to do burnouts like a pro. To demonstrate just how easy it is Ford took to the streets with professional fun haver Vaughn Gittin Jr. and the new 2018 Ford Mustang to give unsuspecting people an opportunity to do some burnouts.

Goodwood’s Annual Celebration Of Speed Begins Today

You probably couldn’t get more British than the Goodwood Festival of Speed if you were wearing an ascot sipping tea with the Queen being chauffeured in a Rolls-Royce by a Corgi. Held since 1993 on land reserved for livestock throughout the remainder of the year, the Goodwood Festival brings automotive enthusiasts from around the world for a celebration of speed at Lord March’s Goodwood Estate.

The four-day event hosts one of the most diverse shows in the world with everything from classic cars to modern F1 cars and everything in between, including aerial displays. There are numerous attractions which draw spectators throughout the Festival of Speed, but none more so than the hill climb. A nod to racing past the hill climb invokes images of Le Mans with simple straw bales separating supercar from spectator.

Unless you have Lord March money it is most likely too late to make this year’s Festival of Speed, but certainly worth planning for in the future if you’re a racing enthusiasts. Until then you can follow all the Goodwood action online.

Car Spotting | 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The 1960s was a decade plagued by conflict abroad, from the Vietnam War to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Domestically the people were struck by assassinations and civil unrest surrounding the war and equal rights movement. In Detroit, another conflict was brewing over the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette coupe and while certainly not on the same scale as the others, it would leave a lasting mark on the automotive landscape.

RELATED: Corvette Carbon 65 Edition Prime For Collectors

Introduced in 1963, and 1963 only, the split-window Corvette was the brainchild of Bill Mitchell. Upon its release, it was immediately poorly received by Zora Arkus-Duntov, the “Father of Corvette,” as well as consumers who struggled to be able to see out the rear-view mirror due to the split-window. Additionally, the production on the split-window coupe was further complicated by the design verse the traditional single pane rear-window. All these would contribute to the short-lived run of the split-window coupe, but in that single year its long-lasting mark was made.

RELATED: Is This The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1? [Video]

Essentially the ’63 coupe was simply ahead of its time as today it’s regarded as one of the most iconic ‘Vettes, as well as one routinely topping a collector’s wish list. It is also worth noting that the struggle to see out the back window and manufacturing challenges would both be made obsolete today by advances in technology. This online listing offers a rare opportunity to own the classic first year C2 Corvette and with it a piece of history.

In Honor Of Baby Driver, The Best Wagons For Keeping Your Babies Safe

While we don’t condone babies driving, we’re excited for the new film, Baby Driver. (Ed Note: Ansel Egort isn’t actually a baby but a swoon-worthy young getaway driver forced to drive for a crime boss.) In honor of the film we’re running down our favorite “baby drivers” or rather our favorite wagons for getting your babies out of harms way quickly.

Volvo V60 Polestar

Baby Driver, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo

Just look at it, it’s practically screaming for you to grab the missus, strap in the car seat, throw Fido in the back and book it. With a 0-60 time of 4.5-seconds and 362hp with 347 lb-ft of torque book it it will. Plus you have the added bonus of that top-tier safety Volvo is known for.

Audi A4 allroad

Baby Driver, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo

With allroad right there in the name you can take solace in knowing you’re covered. While not as quick as the Volvo the Audi has 252hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, but really brings home the bacon with the quattro all-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz E63 S Wagon

Baby Driver, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo

Cranking out 603hp and 627 lb-ft and a 0-60 time of 3.4-seconds this is a doozy and would certainly get the job done of evading whatever it is you’re running from. However, it comes at a price, a just over $100,000 price.

Crash Test | Ford Mustang GT Vs. Lexus IS

Car crashes in real life are unfortunate, but you have to admit it’s tough not to rubber neck. Crash test videos, on the other hand, make things a bit better because you know no one got hurt and they’re contributing to vast amounts of data making these vehicles a lot safer for those who unfortunately find themselves in an accident.

If you check out the video below that compares the 2018 Ford Mustang GT with the 2017 Lexus IS. The Lexis IS’s base price is around $37,800 which is slightly above what next year’s Mustang GT will be, around $34,000. Despite the presence of additional air bags, the Lexus IS doesn’t seem to fare as well as the Mustang GT from a carnage standpoint and how far the damage reaches towards the cockpit. While more damage and a longer crumple zone may suggest better shock absorption, it matters a lot when the potential for badly broken legs come into play.

Check out the video below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Where Are They Now: UA’s Kaylie Crosby

3A day in the life of Kaylie Crosby consists of morning workouts, lunch at her favorite restaurant SweetGreen Cafe, afternoon walks by many of the nation’s most prestigious monuments and, last but certainly not least, work.

Crosby works as a systems engineer for Entegra Systems based in Hanover, Maryland. Entegra designs, develops and deploys advanced technology and performs critical analytical roles to support our nation’s most important intelligence missions.

According to Crosby, her current role at the company is to “manage training programs focused on enhancing Entegra’s analytic tradecraft and scenario building in support of research models for an IC client.” She also said that, between analytical projects, “I’ve had a hand in recruiting for the company and strengthening our online footprint.” UAEcoCAR3_WhereAreTheyNow_3

Before graduating from The University of Alabama in May 2016, Crosby served as the UA EcoCAR 3 Team’s project manager for two years. She said that “participating in EcoCAR 3 prepared me for my current role in numerous ways, and provided me with skills and lessons that I utilize in the workplace every day.”
Crosby said that it was clear early on that the EcoCAR 3 project was going to teach her a lot about herself and her environment. At the beginning of the project, she started a journal where she took note of these skills and lessons, as well as quotes she read along the way that inspired her to push forward.

UAEcoCAR3_WhereAreTheyNow_2Of course she has in no way mastered any of these skills or lessons, but is thankful that EcoCAR 3 opened her eyes to opportunities for growth. One of the lessons she learned was a quote from film director James Cameron: “Don’t put limitations on yourself. Other people will do that for you.”

“Always have confidence in yourself and your abilities,” Crosby said. “This allows you to push forward toward your goals and see the ultimate value of your contributions.”

“The EcoCAR 3 project built a confidence in myself that I had never seen before,” Crosby said. “I am thankful to carry this into my future career.”

Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions are important for students who want to pursue STEM careers like Crosby because students get hands-on experience that isn’t taught in text books. AVTCs enable students to work on challenging manufacturing technologies to maintain US competitiveness when they become future industry leaders. From May 29-June 4, 2015, teams gathered for the EcoCAR 3 Year One in Seattle, WA to compete in technical, communications, and project management events. Throughout the week, students will share their efforts over this last year with industry experts and judges to highlight the viability of their advanced technology vehicle designs.

“Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions are valuable no matter what career students choose to pursue,” Crosby said.

Crosby added there are many other important lessons and skills that she has learned over the years and ones that she continues to learn from every day. One of these lessons is to never be afraid to ask for help, and ask questions. Vulnerability, she explained, does not have to be a sign of weakness.

“The EcoCAR 3 project was greater than anything I had ever taken part of, and it required me to ask many questions and seek the support of our other leaders, team members, and faculty,” Crosby said.

EcoCAR 3 has also provided Crosby with an incredible network of other successful and motivated students who will no doubt be industry leaders in their fields.

Crosby also agrees heartily with this quote from Roz Savage: “The bigger the challenge, the bigger the sense of accomplishment when you get to the end of it.” As a ne2w school in the EcoCAR 3 competition during fall of 2014, The University of Alabama charged through this challenge head on and went from 11th overall to 4th overall following the Year 2 competition. The ability to now look back and visualize this success has encouraged Crosby to press on when the steps ahead seem overwhelming and impossible. This lesson has followed Crosby into the workplace and provided her with the motivation to conquer new challenges. Nothing that is truly worth doing is ever easy, she said.

“With such a large and interdisciplinary team, the EcoCAR 3 project taught me the value in relaying information to different groups in different ways,” Crosby said. “As a leader on a large interdisciplinary team, it’s crucial to understand your audience and why they may be interested in the information you are providing.”

Crosby found this lesson translates well into her current role with Entegra.UAEcoCAR3_WhereAreTheyNow_6

“The projects we are working on must be communicated to different stakeholders in different ways, and just the same, we must understand our audience and their motivations,” Crosby said.

“I am a self-proclaimed people-pleaser and quickly found through the EcoCAR 3 project how difficult this makes things. It’s impossible to please everyone,” Crosby said. She add that it’s important to work with those around you to set priorities and work within a defined, agreed-upon scope.

Crosby specified just how much she learned about herself as a whole from being a part of EcoCAR 3 at the University of Alabama. She emphasized how important it is to work with those around you to set priorities for your work.

“EcoCAR 3 forever changed my life,” Crosby said. “I would not trade participating in the EcoCAR 3 competition for anything.”UAEcoCAR3_WhereAreTheyNow_9

Dodge’s Hellcat Gets A Widebody Makeover

Mirroring the news out of Dodge’s camp that SRT styling will be available across all trim levels of the Durango they have now annoucned a widebody option for the SRT Hellcat. This is similar to the Durango news in that the fender flares, adding 3.5-inches to the Hellcat, are trickling down from the infamous Demon.

Though this widebody Hellcat is getting some upgrades all its own, from 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires to selectable driving modes thanks to new Electronic Power Steering. All-in-all the upgrades to the 707hp Hellcat shaved 2-seconds off its lap times on the 1.7-mile track. The widebody Hellcat will be available for order in July with a third-quarter delivery date and a $71,495 msrp.

Hummer Facility Sells Out For Electric Cars

In an event rivaling a Hollywood ending to some long drawn out struggle AM General will shut the doors on their commercial assembly plant in Indiana. Though the Hollywood twist ending is not that the plant is seizing operations, but that the plant made famous for the Hummer is being sold and converted into, of all things, an electric car facility. That’s right, the infamous gas guzzler which rose to commercial stardom following the Gulf War will now giveaway to electric cars of the future.

RELATED: The Humvee Is BACK! With A Catch…

Adding another dose of irony to the situation is the purchaser is Silicon Valley based SF Motors, but their parent company is the China based Sokon Industry Group. Needless to say, the product and company are about as opposite you can get, but the deal will save 430 jobs in the Mishawaka, Indiana region which were to be phased out by AM General later this year. A silver lining to a series of events worthy of the silver screen or greater.

Epitome Of Freedom, The WienerDrone, Arrives In Time For Fourth

Be sure to look to the sky this fourth of July weekend, but not for the obvious firework spectaculars. No, rather hot dogs could be raining down upon you from Oscar Mayer’s new WienerDrone. This expression of everything that is right in the world today joins Oscar Mayer’s WeinerFleet consisting of the famed Wienermobile, WienerMini and WienerRover.

The WeinerDrone joins the fleet as the first unmanned hot dog delivery vehicle in the world, able to deliver to those hard to reach locations. Additionally, the brand is furthering their ground WeinerFleet with the WeinerCycle, a three-wheeled moped which the company says is great for urban deliveries and features a side car which doubles as a hot dog warming station. Epic Bandit Jump Recreated , Crash

The annual Bandit Run culminated, just like in the movies, in Georgia with an appearance by the bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. However, before it wrapped officially Saturday, Burt and the gang made a stop by Atlanta Motor Speedway to see Stunts Unlimited recreate some of the iconic scenes. Things were going smoothly as a flatbed semi took the top clean off a police cruiser, but when it came time for the big jump, the same can not be said. As everyone knows Burt jumps Mulberry Bridge in the film landing safely on the other side; well, here the jump goes off fine, but as Evel Kneivel once said, “Anybody can jump a motorcycle. The trouble begins when you try to land it.”

As the video shows the result was the Trans Am landing on its side verse the more traditional four wheels, but at the end of the day all were safe and it provided some rad memorabilia to benefit veterans. “Burt signed a bunch of pieces for auction on thebanditjump.com,” said The Bandit Run +Restore A Muscle Car Founder Dave Hall.

Dodge Announces SRT Styling Across Entire 2018 Durango Lineup

When the 2018 Dodge Durango debuted, it was all about the staggering 475hp, and rightfully so. However, Dodge has announced styling options across their Durango lineup to reflect the performance of the fastest and most powerful three row SUV.

According to Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands for FCA North America, “Durango buyers can get SRT attitude with every Durango powertrain – from the 295 horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 to the 360 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 to the new 475 horsepower 6.4-liter SRT.” Meaning aggressive looks and performance are no longer mutually exclusive. The Durango R/T models will now share the same front fascia, hood, and LED fog lamps as the top-end SRT. Additionally, all models will have an electronic T-shifter, backup camera and sport steering wheel.

1947 Indian Brings $110,000 At Barrett-Jackson

It’s easy to get lost in a sea of adjectives when describing some of the lots which roll through Barrett-Jackson, but this 1947 Indian Chief with a sidecar is deserving of them all. Shelving for a moment Indian’s incredible history, this bike was a passion project that in its own right is deserving of all the accolades. Purchased by a man in Massachusetts back in 2003 he began the painstaking process of restoring or replacing every piece of the bike. The original Chief engine has been rebuilt and is number matching to the bikes frame. Taking the full restore a step further the owner sought out a famed Goulding sidecar from Poland which was tailored to match the bike.

RELATED: GMG’s Museum Caliber 1947 Indian Chief

Once the largest manufacturer in the world in 1910 by 1947 Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company had seen better days. And just six years after this bike was built they would file for bankruptcy. However, their legacy lives on today with classic bikes regularly leading the charge at auctions and with a resurrection of the brand name in 1999.

Could The ‘Cuda’ Be Making A Comeback?

According to FCA Authority, Fiat-Chrysler has filed a trademark application for the ‘Cuda’ name. This is certainly no indication that the brand is confirming their intentions to bring back the iconic nameplate, but it is the logical first step in doing so. The brand filed the trademark request on June 16th and while it could just be to protect the name in the future, we’re optimistic we will again see a new Barracuda on the streets.

Evel Kneivel Museum To Celebrate Grand Opening In Topeka, KS

Make no bone about it, Evel Kneivel is an American hero. While he wasn’t the first daredevil of his kind he is, arguably, the most famous. The prime of his career was at a time when our country needed him the most, whether it was the escalation of the Vietnam War, the Watergate and Nixon resignation or the oil crisis of the late 1970’s – Evel Knievel was there donning his famous red, white and blue leather jumpsuit showing us what’s possible and kicking ass while doing it. Now you can finally visit his historic museum in Topeka, KS.

Between 1960 and 1980, Evel Knievel attempted over 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps as well as the Skycycle jump over Snake River Canyon. Only once did he jump in the state of Kansas, but it was in Hutchinson which is about a 2.5-hour drive from Topeka. Evel’s more famous motorcycle jumps include 13 single-decker buses in London, 14 Greyhound buses at King’s Island and of course the failed attempt to jump the Fountains and Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, NV. He even jumped 13 sharks which, ironically, was his final actual jump of his illustrious career crashing in practice breaking his collar bone and right arm. He scheduled two more jumps in Australia and Puerto Rico, but wasn’t able to jump either of them.

“Anybody can jump a motorcycle. The trouble begins when you try to land it.”

Evel Knievel

So why Topeka? It turns out that half of Knievel’s crew is from Kansas, but one of the most interesting connections Evel Knievel had with Topeka is one of his primary inspirations for his career was from there. George “Joie” Chitwood (of the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show) got his racing start at the Topeka Shawnee County Fairgrounds, less than 100 yards from the home of the Evel Knievel Museum. Following Chitwood’s racing career, which included seven Indianapolis 500 races, the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show made a chance visit to Butte, Montana in 1953. There 15-year-old Bobby Knievel was in the stands and he never forgot deciding then to pursue a career of risking his life as he thrilled millions and millions of adoring fans.

With a total investment of more than $5 million, the Evel Knievel Museum allows visitors to experience Evel Knievel’s journey to super-stardom and view hundreds of authentic items that belonged to Evel.

Exhibits:

  • Evel’s motorcycles – Harley’s, Triumphs, Norton’s
  • Knievel’s genuine leathers and helmets
  • “Big Red,” Knievel’s fully-restored Mack Truck
  • Evel’s personal and never-before-seen memorabilia
  • Virtual Reality 4-D Jump Experience
  • Broken Bones Interactive, including Evel’s actual X-rays
  • “Plan Your Jump” Interactive Challenge
  • Engine & Suspension Interactive
  • Snake River Experience Room featuring Knievel’s actual X2 Skycycle

Second Ever U.S. Built RWB Porsche To Auction In Santa Monica

To a Porsche purist this could be regarded as blasphemy, but the rise of Japanese tuner shops like Liberty Walk or RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB) have been nothing short of amazing. And while it seems like these cars are more and more commonplace it’s do largely in part to others mimicking the style, as well as Liberty Walk now selling kits worldwide, but RWB is different. RWB still builds there custom Porsches by hand or more specifically by the hand of one man, Akira Nakai.

If you have never seen Nakai-san work there are numerous videos on YouTube showcasing his talent, but in short it’s him, a Porsche, a lot of cigarettes and even more amounts of raw talent. This 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa is only the second he ever completed in the United States using his painstaking process. Painstaking for the owner as Nakai-san cuts away at the factory sheet metal, often times by eye to create his RWB Porsches. In addition to the signature RWB fender flares and badging, this 911 features 18-inch brushed bronze wheels by Floss Designs and a custom sound system. This classic and significant RWB Porsche is expected to bring in north of 100K when it goes to auction in Santa Monica this weekend.
