Hummer Facility Sells Out For Electric Cars

In an event rivaling a Hollywood ending to some long drawn out struggle AM General will shut the doors on their commercial assembly plant in Indiana. Though the Hollywood twist ending is not that the plant is seizing operations, but that the plant made famous for the Hummer is being sold and converted into, of all things, an electric car facility. That’s right, the infamous gas guzzler which rose to commercial stardom following the Gulf War will now giveaway to electric cars of the future.

Adding another dose of irony to the situation is the purchaser is Silicon Valley based SF Motors, but their parent company is the China based Sokon Industry Group. Needless to say, the product and company are about as opposite you can get, but the deal will save 430 jobs in the Mishawaka, Indiana region which were to be phased out by AM General later this year. A silver lining to a series of events worthy of the silver screen or greater.
