To honor Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s win at Darlington Raceway 30 years ago Richard Childress Racing has announced they will field two cars with commemorative paint schemes when the series returns to the track in September. The news from RCR coincides with the Raceway’s plan to pay tribute to that Southern 500 win 30 years ago, along with the entire 1985-89 era of racing.
Throughout his career Senior earned nine win’s at Darlington in NASCAR’s top series, second all-time, making this years Bojangles’ Southern 500 an obvious choice. Austin Dillon and Ryan Newman will field the tribute cars in the 3 and 31, respectively, in what is now being hailed by NASCAR as The Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR.
