The ‘X’ Is No Longer An Unknown, Mercedes-Benz Reveals X-Class Pickup

After debuting the concept for the X-Class rumors were rampant from, whether it would be available in the United States to whether it would be made at all. Today, Mercedes-Benz answered all the questions with the unveiling of the X-Class midsize pickup.

From Cape Town, South Africa the truck was revealed to the world as a truly global truck. Recognizing the ever-different reasons for truck ownership around the world Mercedes said their “X-Class is aimed at very different customer groups: land owners and farmers in Argentina, business owners and building contractors in Australia, families with an affinity for premium products in Brazil, trend-conscious individualists in South Africa and Great Britain as well as sporty adventurers in New Zealand and Germany.” While looking to make its mark on the truck landscape around the world, the United States with its domestic truck stronghold is not currently slated to get the X-Class anytime soon.

Additionally, the truck will meet the various demands of global truck owners by offering various gas and diesel engines. The most powerful being the “top-of-the-range” V6 diesel, for select markets, that will feature 258hp in mid-2018. Up from the 190hp at launch. Further showcasing the Mercedes commitment to a global truck is the 165hp X200 available exclusively in a left side drive for regions like Dubai and Morocco.

In regards to the what makes a truck a truck, the hauling and towing capability, Mercedes puts it in a way that only they can. “The X-Class can haul a payload of up to [1.2-tons]. That is enough to transport 17 full 50-litre barrels of beer in the cargo area. Able to tow up to [3.9-tons], it can also pull a trailer containing three horses or an [26.2-feet] yacht.”

Fingers crossed the X-Class one day makes its way here as Mercedes-Benz has more than succeeded in creating a versatile and stylish midsize pickup for countless uses.
