The “King of Rock’n’Roll” needs a chariot worthy of his title. For Elvis Presley that chariot came in the form of a BMW 507. Elvis first took delivery of his 507 on December 20, 1958 while doing his military service in Germany and would use it to commute between his home and base. At that time the car was white, but he would soon paint it red to mask the messages of affection often written on the white exterior from adoring fans. However, as his military service wrapped up and Elvis returned stateside the whereabouts of his BMW 507 became a mystery.
For nearly 50 years it was lost and believed lost forever. That is until Jackie Jouret of Bimmer magazine, along with BMW Group Classic were able to piece together its past, leading them from Germany to a pumpkin warehouse in California. It was in that warehouse Jouret would discover The King’s BMW 507, one of just 254 produced between 1955-1959.
With the help of BMW Group Classic the car was returned to Munich to be restored to its original condition. The complete restoration would take the team in Germany two years before returning it to California where it had spent so much of its life to be presented to the public for the first time at Pebble Beach nearly a year ago to the day, just on the heels of Elvis Week.
