It’s Pebble Beach week which means car manufacturers, buyers and sellers, and enthusiasts will be flocking to the usually quite California coastal community on the Monterey peninsula. Ambiguously called Pebble Beach after the location and flagship event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the week is actually comprised of numerous events, parties and auctions hosted by a variety of different companies. One such auction is the Pacific Grove Auction Thursday, August, 17 where Richard will have three cars crossing the block.
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo – $20,000 – $40,000 (Estimate, no reserve.)
With just 1,603 original miles since 1987 and in pristine condition, this Porsche 944 is most likely the finest factory example in existence. At the end of its factory run the 944 was Porsche’s most successful car at that time with 163,000 units moved. And a model that Jalopnik would recently write about in a piece simply titled, “Why You Need A Porsche 944.” Well, now is your chance to own a 944 by way of lot No. 4.
1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary – $225,000 – $275,000 (Estimate.)
One of just 657 built this 1989 Lamborghini Countach remained a single owner car until 2015. Quite possibly the most iconic Lamborghini to date this Countach celebrates its silver anniversary with this 25-year commemorative edition. Offered with its original window sticker and bill of sale this Countach has been miraculously maintained through the years and a fine example of the brands Italian design and engineering. Lot No. 58 crosses the block Thursday.
1974 Volkswagen Thing – $25,000 – $50,000 (Estimate, no reserve.)
Purchased by Richard, not even a year ago at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas, this 1974 Volkswagen Thing Acapulco Edition returns to auction. While the Thing had a 15 year run around the globe under many different names, the Alcapulco Edition was quite limited by comparison. In just a three month run in 1974 about 400 of these unique automobiles were produced, all in the same resort inspired color scheme, making them quite rare today. With no reserve, this classic Volkswagen could be yours this week when lot No. 66 comes up.
