Meet The Most Expensive British Car Ever Sold At Auction

It was over 60 years ago that this Aston Martin DBR1 was born. The very first of five, this DBR1, along with its siblings would go on to have a storied racing career. Winner of the 1959 Nürburgring 1000 KM and sister to the Le Mans winner that same year, DBR1/1 would compete in the historic endurance race three times, but would unfortunately fail to finish each time. However, as iconic as the car would become to Aston Martin, and the world, is the list of drivers who would pilot it in the late 1950s: Roy Salvadori, Carrol Shelby, Jack Brabham and Stirling Moss.

When sold over the weekend at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction, DBR1/1 would bring a staggering $22.5 million. A record for a British car at auction and a testament to its significance.
