Sweet Sixteen! 1930 Cadillac Series 452 V-16 At Monterey

The roaring 20s were a time of significant economic growth and opulence in the United States. In 1930, Cadillac would roll out this 452 V-16 Coupe looking to capitalize on the Gatsby-esque extravagance of the time. Unfortunately, what came immediately after the boom of the 1920s was the Great Depression, which lasted through the entirety of the 30s.

As a result 4,076 V-16s were built in the eleven year run of the car, but most occurring in 1930 before the stranglehold of the Great Depression really took hold. This particular car was one of just 98 produced in this style, with Fleetwood’s No. 4376S coupe body. V-16 not only in name, the car featured the first V16 engine to make its way to a production car in the U.S. Its massive engine is supported by a 148-inch wheelbase and 19-inch wire wheels adorned with the V-16 emblem in the middle. Not only a beautiful example of design and engineering, but a lasting reminder of one of the finest decades in American history it looks to fetch between $350,000 – $450,000 at auction this weekend.
