John ‘Bo Duke’ Schneider’s General Lee Heads To Auction

Hundreds of Chargers would be used throughout the filming of The Dukes of Hazzard and countless more made in tribute to the hit show. The sheer number of cars paying homage to the popular show coupled with the cars iconic status in popular culture have made it less desirable in many ways. However, a 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee once owned by John ‘Bo Duke’ Schneider, well, that’s a horse of a different color.

Built by one of dem Duke boys, this General Lee was not featured in the show, but nonetheless has a storied history. After John Schneider built the car it found its way to former NBA star Jalen Rose. It would then undergo some, well, less than authentic changes: the Virginia Battle Flag was covered, the number was changed to 05 (Rose’s number) and the name above the window changed to “Longboy” from “Bo’s General Lee.” All have since been returned to original, including the “Bo’s General Lee” making one of the most famous car names perhaps a little more famous. The car is signed by The Dukes of Hazzard cast as well as Rose.

Back in 2015 the car failed to sell at auction with pre-auction estimates putting it at over $200,000, a price which seemed steep considering Bubba Watson’s “Lee 1” only set him back $110,000 in 2012. Bo’s General Lee will cross the block again at Mecum Las Vegas in mid-November hoping for better results.
