A lot of emphasis is put on the finding of a car, but rarely do we stop to consider how that one-of-a-kind Ferrari could be shuttered away to collect dust for 40 years. And however bizarre it may seem that a car gets parked and forgotten for decades, it is even more so to think that the same could happen to a brand new supercar, but that’s exactly the case with this 1997 McLaren F1.
Sure, the around a million dollar car, in today’s dollars, made the F1 a very expensive investment, but with just 106 being produced the low-volume alone would have made it desirable. So the idea that this ’97 F1 would never be titled, sold and have just the 148 pre-delivery test miles seems too good to be true, but it shockingly is the case. Not only that, chassis no. 060 comes with the interior still wrapped for shipping from the factory and a never touched one-of-a-kind Tag Hauer watch adorned with the chassis number on the face.
The Dandelion Yellow with a dark grey interior McLaren is an exceptional example of one of the fastest naturally aspirated cars on the planet and soon could become one of the most expensive cars on the planet. Back in 2015 a 1998 F1 LM sold for $13.75 million used, so one can only imagine what a new 1997 McLaren F1 could potentially bring at auction.
