Hendrick Motorsports finds themselves in a familiar spot going into next season, unfamiliarity. The most famous team in NASCAR will return two drivers next season, but only one will remain in the same car. Here’s how it all breaks down.
Jimmie Johnson will remain in his now famous 48 Lowes Chevrolet.
Chase Elliot will vacate the iconic 24 car for he filled after Jeff Gordon retired two years ago and move to the number 9 his father, Bill Elliot, made famous.
With the 24 seat now open at Hendrick, the team has tapped William Byron to takeover the Axalta Chevy.
Last, but not least, is the 88 which Dale Earnhardt Jr. will leave at the end of the 2017 season and be filled by Alex Bowman.
